Humanity has made significant moral progress since ancient times. Kenya has too, but it is way behind in some areas, like the idea that people minding their own business should be labeled criminals. People are gay because of the same reason people are straight. When confronted with these powerful feelings, the average person will feel this is a huge part of their life. This isn't rocket science. It's the same reason people eat. Hunger. It's not chosen any more than sexual attraction.

I came across the video with Museveni because I'm interested in gay issues and it popped up on my Youtube sidebar. So I reacted to that, and then was struck by posters using one of the worst African dictators in recent memory as a spokesperson for anti-gay views. That's appalling to me. Nothing hollow or plastic about that. We all choose what we want to talk about. cheers

They define out of existence gay women, who presumably don't practice b - - sex. So you are also sexist. Women just don't figure into your definitions. I'm a gay man, and I am no more interested in doing this than most people. BUT, I tolerate you because I can understand why people feel the way you do.

  41. It does go overboard, I wholeheartedly agree. BUT, I don't see what's so painful about just granting gays the same rights as everyone else. In Kenya, in any country, it costs more to prosecute gays than not prosecute them. So Kenyans are wasting more resources enforcing discrimination than just having a discussion. That's where the President's message rings hollow.

  49.  @hloniphotaula4300  It may have been here and there. But as a whole, before economic contacts with the West, Africa was not very healthy, quite literally. Disease was rampant, and brought under control by the introduction of western medicine. Slave raiding was still widespread, and it was the West - not Africa - that eventually stamped it out. Life was much more dangerous and precarious. Public safety was a joke. There's this gigantic myth that before the industrial age life was idyllic and peaceful and plentiful. It's a fairy tale for the most part. It's like people who nostagize the Middle Ages. Medieval Europe was a horror show of disease, pollution and violence. This is not to say Britain and other countries had a right to colonize other peoples. That is a moral crime. And violence often accompanied these conquests. But on the whole, by most indicators the transformation of Africa in the colonial era was mostly beneficial for the people that lived there.

While some forms of incest may not cause harm, many others do; and pedophilia is at great risk of causing life long emotional trauma. Being there's precious little evidence that gay relationships are inherently harmful. Some things gays do might be said to have harmful effects on society. If that's the case, the campaign should be against some forms of activism, and promiscuity. Condemn those, but don't condemn otherwise harmless private relations within the bedroom.
