It's sad that you don't recognize assault with a deadly weapon when you see it: the precise action Travis initiated that provoked the final act of violence.

Many of them do need to do that. But so do all of us because, even though white racism has been far more dangerous to society than any other, the things which motivated it exist in all of us on some level. We must always be on our guard to recognize our actions, and that a lot of humanity's racism is unconscious.

Whether correct or not, God does not approve of your actions, which is disrespectful to the people here who came to discuss the Arbery case. They didn't come here for a religious sermon.

If one goes by due process, I don't think a hate crime can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. But no one cares about due process any more, just their own emotions.

I actually think Bryan should get even less than five years. The felony murder laws are controversial, and have been done away with in 3 states. I believe a case by case assessment is more in keeping with due process.

There were both forces working for justice and against. It did take some degree of luck. But the jurors doing the right thing was, I don't think, an accident. As to there only being one black juror, that is troubling. BUT one has to keep in mind statistics don't just have averages, they have variance. The community is 26% black, which means that theoretically speaking, there should have been about 2.5 black jurors. Thus one black juror is not exactly a rigorous proof of racism, any more than rolling double 6s in a board game is proof of cheating.

@keithanthony974 The judge said he thought there was probably racism in the jury selection. Yes, it's probable. But no rigorous proof. If you have the specific proof, I may have missed it. Kindly share I'd love to see it.

@terriewilliams8831 Maybe so! But the even more incredible thing is, why would anyone in the court room think to mention it within earshot of everyone? Did this person honestly think that outrageous comment would not be seen for what it was?

When Travis took aim at Arbery, he crossed a basic line. It's known as assault with a deadly weapon. It is that act which ratcheted up the violence factor out of all proportion to the situation.

@VortekStarling Afraid you are wrong here. This is the part people get wrong when they don't study the case carefully. Well before the shots were fired, Travis took aim at Arbery when he was still several seconds away, and still behind the truck. The FBI enhanced version of the video, and Travis' own testimony prove this beyond doubt. Travis admits this is exactly what he did. He took aim from a far because he felt threatened. That is what led Arbery to grab the gun. The unnecessary escalation of violence, which provoked the final confrontation. You have no right to aim a loaded weapon on someone just because they are jogging in your direction. This is common sense lost on the Ms defenders.

@VortekStarling I agree life is too harsh. But by creating reckless endangerment, someone ended up dead. So he has to take some responsibility for the death, not just assault, IMO. I also think the third guy, Bryan, is being treated unfairly. There's very little balance in this case, in part because people are sick of racist violence, and at this point in time, these three have become the personification of evil, and a symbol of the racist history of the US. With this level of hatred, due process and balance are not likely to be respected.

@scratchnoff7609 A lot of defenders of the Ms seem to have a blind spot. By Travis' own admission, and the FBI enhanced video, we know that Travis pointed a loaded gun at Arbery when still well behind the truck. This is indefensible. If Travis felt threatened, he has himself to blame. To say Arbery was a threat is to say jogging is a threat. That's the problem with brandonski. People like this cannot process information the way sensible people do.

Because it sends a much stronger message to other violent racists? That said, while a hate crime is a reasonable conclusion here, not so sure it would pass the test of due process, which has to be beyond a reasonable doubt. Some people mistakenly think being a racist means a white man is unable to pursue a black man for any other reason than race.
