@09K24 This is ignorant, as racism is a worldwide phenomenon, and predates the oppression of people of color by whites. It existed in ancient China for example. The origins of racism are debatable. I would argue it arises from within human nature. The redefinition can be easily tested. One of the most common definitions and common usages of racism can be found in any dictionary. For example: "the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to physical appearance and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another." Do you agree this is one valid definition of racism? If not, that proves you have redefined the term by excluding one of its most common usages.

I think David is right here. The claim that racism cannot be practiced by minority groups amounts to a re-definition of racism. The problem is, one is not entitled to simply re-invent words to one's personal liking. Or more accurately, if you do decide to redefine common usage, at the very least you have to provide a justification for the new definition. The problem is, we don't have that here. There is neither a popular nor scholarly nor even a sociological consensus that this definition is more accurate or more appropriate than the common usage one. So for example, if I claimed that the word sugar means salt, I am committing the same error as the outlier definition of racism. I cannot expect people to adhere to this new definition just because I like it more than you do. Definitions are not determined by what a word personally means to you. But that is precisely what's happening here. Some people are foisting their unproven definitions on all of us. That is not how language works.

@09K24 Thank you for your reply. If you think people of color cannot be racist in the US, you are in fact redefining the term. That simply does not flow from the definition of racism. Racism has many senses and contexts, and you seem to want to amputate those senses of the word that don't fit the specific type of racism you refer to. Now if I have your position wrong, I apologize. But if not, I don't understand the need to re-invent words by declaring their common usages null and void. If that's your position, maybe you can help me understand how that works. Thank you
