  1. Maybe so. But the way I see it, this trial violated the reasonable doubt principle. It assumes that it's crazy or far-fetched to suggest a suicidally depressed person might still be capable of free will, in which case Carter's words would have been no different than anyone else putting pressure on someone else to do a certain thing. So should we declare all suicidally depressed people as incompetent to make their own decisions? Should we assume they have no free ill at all? I don't know the answers to these questions. Just putting the question out there.
