  1. I used to think Rodney Stich, the noted air safety author, was an alarmist. But considering the history of commercial air crashes very carefully and completely, I now more or less agree with him. Virtually every crash, at least until quite recently, was due to basic violations of the system, or a system that was inherently unsafe. And even today, it seems almost a miracle planes don't fall out of the sky as regularly.
