  1. They are quite intelligent, but intelligence has nothing to do with it... If they're from a different herd most of the time they won't help, they've got their own young to protect. Pretty much goes for any species in the African wilderness. Survival of the fittest.

  3.  @MrAMYJACK  most of the time elephants will not go out of their way to help a elephant they have no family bond with. Hence why I said "if they're from different herds". Elephant herds are a very close nit family.
