It does have an Indian accent.

Before people support the other side. Listen to what you are saying. Some people in the mainland are illegally in HK. By Chinese laws you are supposed to stay in your registered hometown and not move around ! This virus lockdown demo the situation. Cos those provinces took out state loans.. so they need the people to actually pay them off. Nothing for nothing.

@jamesmarlow3470 : Why doesn't she call them Cantonese?...

Why are you judging them ? People aren't even allowed to speak wei tou without being bullied. And that is the lingo even before Cantonese. So what are you on about ? Suddenly everybody calls it Hakka and generalised it ?.... No wonder people are peeved off... And I saw the so called professor to preserve the language is not even actually weitou himself... Double whammy. Have your land stolen. Language stolen. Accused. And then relabelled. Then the enemies claim your race... Ha. Funny.

@PakistanChinaFriendship . How is that possible?

You cannot tell the difference between a British accent to an American accent can you ? They are speaking in a British accent.. but with a slight Indian twist. They certainly don't sound American. Not at all. I class myself as British Cantonese... If I hear them on the streets in the UK, I would assume that they are British.

@DocPetron : Hm... I tried to listen to their speech again. Maybe you are right. She has a heavier hindi accent or other... That speech pattern of "da da da daaa" "da da da daaa". Which doesn't exist in British English. And then she overlaps it with an odd English. I presume her school has American teachers.... That is why. It's so weird. But saying that, when she switch over to Cantonese, she definitely nailed the speech pattern. Which I thought was quite pleasant to hear !

One thing is for certain... These ladies would not have experienced the kind of prejudices that I did, even when I was growing up.. and even during my trips back to HK in my 20s... and even during my uni years. Chinese men, would definitely hit you. If you offended them. That is for one. I remember being kicked in the face with a football. Cos I wouldn't date a certain guy. And then his entire family would definitely gang up on me. Then there would be over overseas SE Asian chinese as well.. that would bully so many of the UK local chinese... Like, in a really bad way. Continuous harassments, and just minor antagonisms. Maybe in their eyes, this is super "friendly".... but in the UK, you are raised to be super disciplined and law-abiding..... Those kids... (which is what we all were).. definitely had no boundaries. Dog eat dog world springs to mind. To think that... when I was a child... my mother would discipline us with a CANE.... I don't think these ladies.. would have ever experienced this kind of "cantonese culture"... at all. e.g. To be caned by your mother for being unruly. Or anti-social.

@cn4s490 : China doesn't accept dual nationalities.. you guys know this, right ?... Even if you are born in HK... You aren't a Chinese national... Unless one of your parents was Chinese. So if you stay, then you have to hold Chinese passport.
1
@cn4s490 : But that girl just stated that she is a Hong konger though... If she was born and bred she is a Chinese national?... I don't think she understands her position...

You do realise that many are not mixed race ? ... And Chinese tang codes apply to Cantonese. Which included death penalties back even during the trading days. Whereas the Europeans and their trading people didn't. You knew that bit of history don't you ?
1
But you do know that there is a legal boundary and that the mainland citizens traditionally cannot cross the borders... In case of overpopulation and you helping take their side and misuse your view then it means that the locals are under pressures as well ?.... Don't support actions that can create a criminal offence....

I never knew this history in HK at all... Goodness... Now I realised why HSBC has a strong Indian backing too...

Scmp was started by a Chinese actually... So you are wrong there. Then sold to a Brit. Then onto Alibaba... Etc....
