This is not why young people gave up. It is because of the debts that these houses carry and they cannot see an actual way out? So if they kept the house, then they have to pay inheritance taxes.. and how could a young person, with no means of earning to keep such houses? They cannot. So then these are abandoned. I don't know how these foreigners who stays manages the tax aspect.. or if there is a change in regulation... but if they bring it up to some kind of standards.. and then... if those youngsters earn... Maybe.. into the future. They could once the house that their ancestors once owned?? I dunno.... But the chances of this happening is possibly rare too. Also, this is a kind of business too. Cos it is a foreign buyer... and he does not see it as expensive, comparatively... from his own home country. So... swings and roundabouts.

Uenohara isn't too far away from Tokyo... This is similar to London, and then the countryside. Cos even in a 1-2 hour commute, it isn't totally off grid.
