The best way is to see Switzerland as a model to follow. Because.. it is in a quite wintry place... and often dark... and in those dark days, you need light buildings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIWkLL9RT7c - Noticed all the outside is white ??? And then a lot of glass. Well insulated. Warm. Just a single building can uplift. Then town planning can happen after.... Imagine that the Tower can be used for the BBC shows. And then a dance academy to be there. Or some kind of Royal Ballet... split say from Manchester to have a sub-unit or location. And then, have practising places.... Then build on top of businesses.... At least have good internet, so those who want a "work from home" can happen. So those who wants to mouse-hole from London, or wherever, then they can ? And if they want to get into Europe... or London, then a nearby flight is possible ? Better than even a train ! But those in the know... of Swiss Hotelier.... Their standards are super high. Really high.. that... it even trumps Dubai. So people have to be weary of this level of hotel experiences.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSsi4kqmcFI - Of course, when it comes to Christmas.. people would always think of the further Northern European countries. But I do not see why it cannot be Blackpool as well. Dark and cosy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJJtIxuDr9s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwkAdrffnYE - Even though Blackpool is not well known for spas or springs. But there is nothing to say that, because it is near the coast... That it cannot be a part of an actual water/steam energy sustainable source.. that feeds into the building of a hotel, say..... I mean, the Dutch tamed the marshes... Britain could tame the heating.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ-KLYgYtRQ - Definitely need another level of professionalism to raise its game for Blackpool I think.

Maybe you could do what we did in our generation, which was mouse-holing.. i.e. Move elsewhere for a bit, and then back again. When my father first came to the UK, he was actually in London. We were all in London... being from HK as well... Even though if you read some of the social media articles now, we get so panned down... like no tomorrow.. but before the various financial crashes, that is what people did. They worked on the ships and moved with the goods across the globe, to sell. And that is how you used to find restaurants and various things opening up, cos it was trade. The whole share-scheme is just an anchor, to reduce from collapse. But the whole HMO thing isn't that sustainable.. People need to live cosily... and rebuild. I have been reading so much on Poundbury.. that was how we were raised too. I wish this generation would do something similar. As in... don't live in high rises, and pay commercial rental fees. Just be enough, and maybe live via a rental process. Just to cruise into another generation. When we were owning our family businesses, it used to be such that, if you don't want to live in a house any more, you need to apply to the local council and to convert your house into a shop. That was what most people did for their communities... and they provided support for one another. Sometimes, it isn't about the earnings... even if you have the richest of earnings, but you have no generation, and no people, to share that with.. Would you ever feel settled? Many don't feel settled. Money can also cause a lot of pain too. Even if you have a lot of it.

Consider Yorkshire as a State... like the US.. it is very big... but what he is showing you, is just more or less like, one street or maybe two. So around maybe like 8 houses or under 20 houses. The whole area isn't always like this. The village which he is talking of, only has around 8000 people. Which is NOT a like, but it is a very CLIQUELY place... I live in a city of around 500k. I do have families living in the same city, but there is breathing spaces... and you do feel like you don't always be on top of each other in disagreements sometime. For such a small community to survive, they need to commute to nearby areas to work, and to play. Otherwise, they will drive each other crazy. This is why, sometimes, it is good to be in an actual union... So the whole parliament thing, and the whole... "you must speak out and to find out what else is going on" is important.. whether you're from a big city, or small town. Democracy is far more important.. and it is workable and doable. Decisions do get made.

@sheveka : Did you know that houses are for a single pound in Liverpool now? But you need to do it up yourself... and also to live in it too ? So I mean, a lot of people have things like grannies' flats.. And there is a lot more "social" support sometimes up North too. So it doesn't mean that you need to be away with your parents. Most people move with their parents too.. and find a new community etc. Like, in Birmingham.. my uni friend did mention that their mosque have a close community as well. So... worth thinking about sometimes, even to "live cheaply... to survive.. have extra money"... to then commute locally and regionally to see family and friends ??? Especially if you join a mosque or whatever. I did that too, and I have families all over the UK.. which I used to visit quite often. When I cannot, I use emails.

Find a job in the local council.. and get involved... or at the local university, and get involved.. or even the NHS. Then you will begin to see a whole new world of an actual community... and you will easily network? When you move out of London, you will find that, most people are very very sociable up North. People from work, would go out together sometimes after work, and do very basic things for one another as well. In a small town like 100k or 200k people. Or even a mere 500k people... Your work and live, impact somebody else very much. You will find that it is a lot more sociable as well....

@johnbrereton5229 : This is not true. It is free university for anybody that lives in Scotland. If you're English, you need to have lived in Scotland for a minimum number of years first before you could claim. That was my understanding, and it was so before. Unless they have actually changed since we brexited. And in the UK.. some of the old six form schools have been converted into colleges now. The kind that could actually issue a degree status. Some of the universities, or old blue brick ones, are taking in more foreign students. But the local college-turned uni... mostly have a lot of small apprenticeships tied with them as well. So it is worth checking out on these ones.
And yes, construction or management, inside British companies, should have been what you look for instead. I was watching a video... about HK. Under the past 20 years... it turned from an import/export, into an actual city where it doubled its high rises. From 3000 into 9000 high rises... So.. you have to ask, what work, can exist in the UK. It is going to be mostly healthcare. But that can also mean all the infrastructure work, the buildings, the administration, the pensions, the catering... everything. Or you could consider working for your local council as well. And really get into the nitty gritty of it. SIT in the seats !!! There used to be actual councils that could meet and greet other councillors as well on shared fundings etc.
