That is because it was supposed to be simple before but now it is not. Since 1940s... from 60 countries, now into 200. The home office just now deals with them this way.

@peterd788 : Really ??? Oh wow.... I was going to ask, was Malawai actually a British Commonwealth country, yes or no ? And was she or was she not... her mother did not registered her nationality with her birth certification as well ??? Wow....

@douglasherron7534 : That is not true.. cos... it was from another BBC video on youtube which stated more or less that.. actually.... Before 1940., there are around 60 countries... and then now in 2023.. there are around 200 countries. It is the changing of those countries under UN level.. and such that.. literally... the definition of.... she is kind of trapped between those changing laws. Has anybody told her in those terms? But I don't suppose that, out of the scope of Home Office's responsibilities would cover her position though. It's so complicated...

@lindyashford7744 : Is this why devolution happened ? Cos now the devolved areas, are allowing you to register to vote as well ??.... There seems to be like an actual "split", or a further sub-split between citizen and state ? God.. I never knew this kind of thing has happened !

@lindyashford7744 : This is why she needed to go to the Malawaiian embassy to ask, isn't it ? Or needed to do so etc.

@lindyashford7744 : Well.... by default, if she had her mother's old paperwork she could indeed actually still or should still get an actual passport from the Malawaiian embassy? And then slowly transfer that over into a UK instead. This way, she is trapped in between that gap though. The question is... is she worried that.. if she gets the Malawaiian one that she might not be able to stay ?

@lindyashford7744 : At the end of the day, she isn't stateless... is she ? She must have one form or the other. The question is which one, and why is she not aware of it etc.
