@myaq8410 Everyone already KNOWS that she was Black- esp the right (it’s in the Bible, for * sake)….(There was a more recent adaptation, btw—in the 50s🤣—It was one of the “Bible Epics” they seemed to make a lot….but, again, they used a “dyed” white actress, I think Susan Hayward, as the Queen……Way past time for an update)
If they get a decent writer and cast the main roles well, it would do great, as it would appeal to a very wide audience, and be seen as a “new” story (let’s face it: Cleo has been done to death)…. As to “Blowback” to the actress being Black (as the Queen WAS), I think that would happen in a VERY small group. Actresses with talent & charisma are always loved (“Witney Houston” The Bodyguard, Halle Berry, Monster’s Ball, most of the female cast of “Hamilton” were all loved)…not to mention, Big Little Lies, The Handmaid’s Tale, Skyfall, Precious (just thinking of hit “crossover” movies)…
I think blowback right now is happening largely because of what a lot of ppl see as too much gender/race swapping (esp. with historical figures). As that wouldn’t be the case with QS (I suppose if producers wanted to be anal, they could limit the role to AA actresses “of” African, rather than Caribbean, descent :), but with the gorgeous sets, costumes & historical era, if it’s well-written, it would be a hit….(And SHAME on JPS —when explaining why she chose to do Cleopatra : “There aren’t any African Queens that are readily accessible” (maybe she’s just ignorant on history)…In any case, It’s Time.
