I find Thomas Jefferson to have been a brilliant, but an unbalanced, vindictive & thoroughly hypocritical man….His championship of, and help with, the French Revolution—supporting it long after the reign of terror had begun—-was as immoral as it was inexplicable…. His relationship with Sally Hemmings…..His political & reputational backstabbing of supposed friends…..His preaching of moderation, while running Mt. Vernon into debt through decades of overspending (which left his daughter penniless)….His reputation for holding grudges….One could argue that a high price was paid by Jefferson’s contemporaries for the use of his brilliance….
