I’m pretty well-read, and have studied Asian history fairly extensively……The only “Ibn Battuta I’m familiar with was believed to have been a writer of “tall tales”…. Unlike Marco Polo (whose intricate knowledge of earlier Chinese customs & engineering methods—along with his inside knowledge of fairly secretive societies—have led modern scholars & historians to conclude that he did, indeed, travel the vast distances he had claimed), there have been, to my knowledge, no such comparable studies regarding Battuta’s claims…,Until there are, his tales will remain just that…largely exciting fiction….

So do modern scholars & historians….Unlike Marco Polo (whose written record of his travels have been extensively studied by historians & scholars—who concluded that he actually had completed his many journeys), Battuta’s record has not (to my knowledge) undergone similar scrutiny….Until it has, this remains somewhat enjoyable fiction ….

Extremely interesting.

….The Mongols “ran roughshod” indeed—over Muslim, Christian, Buddhist (China) —and every other people in his path….😮

@heroesandlegends ….I’m sure the many women he “married” and abandoned (many, likely left with infants, and thus, “unmarriagable”) also found him “likable” ….
