I feel so SORRY for the Dominicans….They have worked so hard to build a vibrant, FUNCTIONING society—only to be constantly joined at the hip by this basket case of a country that can’t/won’t fix itself….

No….It needs competent OUTSIDE leadership. The very structure of Haitian society/culture makes it incapable of self-governing. (It’s had 300 years to self-govern)….

(Bless the Greeks, you never forget)….However, you’re talking 250 years ago….Unfortunately, in the succeeding three centuries, Haitians scorned the importance of Western education, allowing pre-medieval paganism, culture & character to take over — with disastrous results.… As the nation produced no scholars, engineers or doctors, the country grew into inter-connected hovels (built with any scraps available), lacking in medical care and even the most basic infrastructure—the entirety of the State soaking in corruption, at every level of society…A nation in which over 50% of girls under 12 have been raped at least once….This brief vid doesn’t even come close to describing the horror show that is Haiti……

@jmdjdy ….I did not mean to offend (and I appreciate the information on Haitian scholars)….However, you cannot possibly believe that even 1/2 of 1% of academically-gifted students in Haiti are receiving the education they need to achieve their potential?….It’s the utter waste that is so sad (I would wager that most gifted/high IQ Haitians end up doing anything they can to make a living—rather than working as the professionals they should have been)… There is a worrisome red flag in your comment (which I find to be almost always present in the mindset of citizens of failed countries—and which does not bode well for their future) : The blaming of “others” — nefarious “foreign powers” who, somehow, want to “keep you down” (I guess, because their taxpayers LOVE sending yearly gifts of hundreds of millions of their own, hard-earned money)….If those of you would just take the time to THINK, you would realize what nonsense that is….There is nothing the US & others want MORE than for Haiti to be a functioning & wealthy country (including your neighbor, DR)….It would end the illegal immigration…end the taxpayer charity…and end the constant security threat having an unstable country so close to US borders causes….IF Haitians cannot get out of your victim mindset, you will never excel as a country. Haiti’s miseries have been largely caused by Haitians (massive corruption, to be exact)….Start there. (You have an entire world cheering you on)!

….One thing that Singapore had that Haiti does not : Singaporeans.…. There is so much wrong with Haitian society, it’s really hard to know where to start….How about the fact that the MAJORITY of Haitian girls are raped before the age of 12? Due to many factors (not least of which, the strong belief that “raping a virgin” will cure STDs & AIDS—both of which are epidemic in the country)….Add to this, very low literacy rates, a celebrated violent national character, a reputation for being “work shy,” deep-seated, mystic beliefs (which some compare to pre-medieval paganism), and corruption, so deep and wide-spread, that there isn’t a single Haitian institution not infected by it…. Haitians are Centuries behind their Western peers—-and many decades behind most of the third world….Only competent leadership brought in from OUTSIDE Haiti—along with enough military muscle to back it up—would give the country even a fighting chance of survival….And yet, if that step were taken, Haitians would most likely demand “Independence” and “self-rule.” ……Unfortunately, there are some cultures that are their own, worst enemy—and some countries hell-bent on national suicide….

@tmack2506 ….Have you ever LIVED in Haiti? ….How about had an extended visit? What you’re talking about is all well and good—but it isn’t today’s Haiti. Or yesterday’s Haiti. Unlike the majority of colonized countries (whose self-governance is very recent), Haiti freed itself centuries ago—and went on to create an epically failed state, where child rape is standard, crime is out-of-control, illiteracy everywhere, and where the vast majority of citizens dream only of leaving…. There is nothing to celebrate in that (and the constant excuses & “blaming” of shadowy, malevolent “foreigners” for their plight only keeps them mired in misery….

@fuckisreal666 ….WHO, pray tell, is this “They?” (You are aware that Haiti has been a self-governing country for almost 300 years)? And that the state of the country is 100% due to Haitians, themselves? If by “They” you mean Western countries—The only “crime” committed against Haiti in two and a half centuries has been funneling hundreds of millions of dollars in AID to the country—which has disappeared into a black hole of corruption….(And don’t worry—I believe the West has learned its lesson there )….
