I hardly think that these countries’ joining BRICS “signals” anything—other than the reasonable aim of most countries to “hedge their bets.” ( Knowing China’s fierce desire to challenge US power—and having seen the sometimes enormous economic bribes the Chinese hand out to countries they think might aid them in this goal—why WOULDN’T poorer countries join, if only to please China)?
