(The ONLY one I’m aware of doing “just fine” is Singapore)….When it isn’t building illegal “islands” in ASEAN disputed waters, China’s thugs (posing as “Coastguard”), regularly “ram” the small fishing boats of other countries, causing injury & deaths…. China is daily encroaching upon & violating nearly every other ASEAN member’s EEZ—and refuses to respect boundary rulings handed down from the highest International Courts….And again, as for ASEAN doing “fine”—-Try asking the ASEAN members, themselves, that question. They will ALL “point the finger” at China’s corruption of CAMBODIA—driving a wedge in ASEAN unity, due to China’s bribing of its members to vote in CHINA’S—NOT ASEAN’S—interests…. But the REAL clue that ASEAN DOES want US “meddling” in the region—as a hedge AGAINST China : The fact that NOT ONE ASEAN member “objected” to one of its members (Philippines) allowing the US to put NINE, NEW BASES throughout the island …..(It would seem that “ASEAN” isn’t quite as PLEASED with its bully neighbor as you would like to make out :) 🤣
