  4. I 100% believe the Wisconsin DNA Officer’s account of his encounter with a very large, aggressive and unidentifiable beast. His testimony was very credible —with no embellishments ( and he did exactly what 99% of us would have done in a similar situation : Hit the gas, to get as far away from it as he could :)

  5. …Hitler possessed personal qualities and a particular skill set that makes his meteoric rise not only predictable—but almost inevitable …. Among a shell-shocked, grieving & starving populace (almost all of whom lost loved ones during WWI), Hitler presented himself as a determined & resolute veteran (with 2 Iron Crosses on his chest), while he presented a roadmap of a new, strong & RESPECTED Germany….And for a middle class that was terrified of Bolshevism, Hitler represented a bulwark against a “Red” takeover… All done with Hitler’s innate sense of drama & high style…. The wonder isn’t that Hitler became German leader—but that it took him so long to do so….

  9. Of COURSE the Carthaginians practiced child sacrifice. This doc does mention the sheer NUMBER of infant bones & Stieles found in Carthaginian burial grounds—far, far more than would ever have naturally died…. I just love these historians who adopt one “civilization” as their life’s work—they almost always lose perspective & skepticism, while falling in love with their subjects….

  10. My (adopted) niece is Mongolian….In addition to being a brilliant & very sweet girl, she has the most gorgeous bone structure I’ve ever seen….Mongolians, like her, are the BEST advertisement for the greatness of the (country)….

I loved the Italian architects who had studied the unusual apertures & design of a certain Italian castle—discovering it to have been Romanesque in its use of engineering (utilizing gravity & unbelievable skill to construct pipes throughout the castle which transported water to every room )…. My IDEAL medieval castle : combining form, function AND comfort ❤

You can tell that this is a GERMAN production — few other EU countries would so openly pander to China’s vision of itself (although, as this was made several years ago, such soft propaganda might be overlooked)… ….It’s otherwise a very fun & informative documentary. (I would consider editing the last 3-4 mins of the doc, however….a bit over-the-top :)

  16. ….Voltaire’s vision of Chinese dynastic leadership being “the best” way of ruling was…a bit misguided….Chinese Emperors (like earlier European rulers) were absolute despots—with horrific methods of the death penalty handed out for the most minor infractions (Matteo Ricci—the Jesuit Monk featured in this doc—was himself a victim of such arbitrary punishments; thrown into prison as an old man on trumped-up charges, he died from his injuries)…. …Chinese Courts were rife with corruption, back-stabbing & eunuch uprisings…. Perhaps if he had actually LIVED in China, Voltaire might have been able to formulate a more accurate picture of Chinese Dynastic rule…

  22.  @TaoDeChing-ls5gz ….If you’re referring solely to inventiveness, ingenuity & curiosity about the Natural World, few students of world history would argue with you (that those of European & East Asian heritage displayed an acute curiosity, and the drive to constantly “improve” existing systems)…. However, both Europe & East Asia, it can be argued, valued “individual” excellence & achievement over “community achievement & stability”….S. Americans tended to form very homogeneous, smaller, multi-generational homes & communities, where group dynamics were valued over those of the individual (and, as for Latin Americans “not forming proper cities,” I think the Incas & the Aztecs might beg to differ with you)….

Ridiculously one-sided….Had the Republicans won, Spain would have become a Soviet Sattelite—and the slaughter would have been many times greater (“Beginning with the educated”)….Franco was the best, possible outcome for Spain (plus, Spain’s economy & GDP has never been stronger/higher as it was under Franco’s 30-yr rule)…

My “information” comes from interviews with Spanish Republican leaders, interviews with Stalin aide, Sergei Asmonov (1930-1939) and from the lips of people who fought on the Republican side (in addition to significant research on the subject)…. In addition to providing the majority of arms used by the Republicans, Stalin provided over 1,000 Soviet tank crews & pilots, and over 300 Soviet military advisors (who rapidly moved to dominate Republican leadership)….One of the primary reasons for the Republicans swift demise after 1938 was due to the in-fighting between the Anarchists & Spanish Republicans, on one side and the Soviet-led faction, on the other….Stalin scaled back aid dramatically as Hitler’s armaments & pilots began taking an unaffordable toll—then ceased, entirely, when German feelers were first put out regarding what would become the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact…. Though the question as to whether Stalin had specific “designs” on Spain as a “satellite” or not has never been definitively answered, most historians suggest that had the Soviet-German pact not occurred, Spain would likely have fallen into the Soviet sphere.

  37. ….Kind of a strange mix of “experts” :The Australian historian has a kind of a smarmy attitude, while the Tunisian historian is seemingly so blinded by his affinity with his Carthaginian ancestors that he refuses to believe that they could have (and they did) engage in “child sacrifice”….(The German historian —with the high voice—is just……amusing :)😂
