No. It’s demonstrative of the incapability of the people to run a modern State. SAME picture in the former Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe)—and almost every African country….Most Africans aren’t “decades” behind their Western counterparts—but centuries….And I’m not talking about education as much as philosophy, core beliefs, societal norms….Africa missed the “renaissance,” the enlightenment, the progress of science and education…All form very recent additions to a way of life more grounded in nature & survival…The greatest obstacle to progress, by far, is the tribal system — based on birth and “who” you know—and a deeply-ingrained, “live for today” philosophy that Westerners will never understand, yet is the very foundation of their belief system…
Post-WWI, Western leaders recognized the limitations of certain populations which prevented them from prospering in the modern world —and appointed panels for each African & Middle Eastern country, of the best Western economists, city planners, judiciary & educators to oversee these countries, and ensure that tribal loyalties & corruption didn’t take over….Corruption was greatly reduced, schools & medical centers introduced, and democratic governments begun to be set up….However, between the dominance of “sponsor” country (White) members in local industries, paired with calls from Progressive Westerners demanding “self-rule” for what they termed, “subjugated peoples,” a fervor was created ….Soon, the populations of “sponsored States”were agitating for the nirvana of “self-rule” ( when in reality, what they desperately wanted, like most ppl, was simply to live in well-run, low-crime societies that had high employment)….What they got, was the opposite. ( And, WHERE did the voices of the Western “self-rule” advocates go? ….Was there even one among them who could name a single area in which the ppls lives “improved?”)….…There really ARE far worse things than having an “appointed” government.

Actually, the reemergence of treatment-resistant T.B. over the past two decades has greatly alarmed the international health community….From Mexico City to Nairobi, Tuberculosis has been performing a nasty second act — particularly spreading in urban settings…. There are parts of Africa now where diagnosis of TB represents an almost certain death sentence, due to drug resistance ( caused by too many Africans’ failure to complete the full course of treatment in the past — resulting in present-day super TB )….
Most strains still respond to treatment, however— though it often needs repeating ( and it’s a NASTY drug regimen—with often serious side effects, which cause many patients to stop the treatment)….It’s currently most prevalent in China, India, Mexico, S America & Africa —though even in the U.S., numbers are rapidly growing : The CDC reported over 10,000 new cases in 2023….
The recent spike of new cases in the EU & the U.S. is mainly due to the influx of migrants ( many of whom come from countries where TB is endemic ). Because these ppl enter the host country illegally, and often work in the shadow economy, they are unlikely to visit a doctor until they are very ill—and have already infected many.…Also, because Tb vaccines (Tuberculosis) aren’t given to children or adults in the West, anyone can be exposed and/or infected.
I have done two stints with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders ) in Mexico City and Côte d’Ivoire, Africa, where the number of T.B. patients we saw was staggering. Of special concern are the drug-resistant strains….Sorry, didn’t mean to bore. It is important, however, to be aware of its prevalence—especially with a rapidly-growing population of potential carriers….You can request a TB test at your next physical— and never ignore a persistent or returning cough. Cheers.

@happymelon7129 I’ve worked @ The U.S. State Dept. for 15 years, and can assure you that where Taiwan is concerned, there is not a crack of sunshine between Democrats & Republicans : U.S. troops WILL be sent (in force) if China were to attempt an invasion……It has nothing to do if it is “popular” or not with Americans. It is one of the (very) few scenarios deemed “absolutely critical” to national security….
**And there are good reasons “why” the U.S, doesn’t broadcast our intentions to the Taiwanese ppl — Out of fear : A) That they will cut back on building up their own military & training (assuming that the “Americans” will do “all the fighting” for them)….and B) That a Taiwanese leader might, one day, unilaterally declare Taiwanese “independence,” knowing that U.S. forces will have to fight, and thus, trigger war with China ( which Japan, S Korea, the Philippines & AUS will also be sucked into—for starters )…
Nothing I say is “secret.” It is well known, understood, and has absolute agreement within U.S. security, defense AND diplomatic circles ( one of very few issues so agreed upon )….Keep telling yourselves that the U.S. “won’t get involved” if Taiwan is invaded….It will be one of the biggest mistakes that China has ever made.

….Actually, flight crews—my former profession—DO experience statistically significant higher cancer rates — particularly among those of us whose routes were predominately international (international flights typically fly at the highest altitudes, 40-45,000 ft to conserve fuel—and are of the longest duration….My NYC—Tokyo flights were 15-16 hours, each way—which was a major reason for my leaving after 5 years)….And it was the TYPE of cancers more often seen among pilots & flight attendants that clued researchers into suspecting solar radiation as the likely culprit : Leukemias & Lymphomas (the two most often associated with radiation exposure)….And, of course, radiation exposure is cumulative (so, if you fly for a living AND had medical radiation treatments as a child, your risk is higher….)
That said, I otherwise agree with your statements….Exposure to low-level radium or plutonium from coal and/or soil (even over a prolonged period) would NEVER produce the type of symptoms those truck drivers exhibited : Oozing burns, peeling skin, blindness, organ failure and death within 5 days. That isn’t even radiation sickness, but extreme, high-level exposure (like that seen among Hiroshima victims within the second & third blast ring of the bomb—i.e., only one ring beyond being immediately evaporated)….Those men were exposed to levels of radiation NEVER found in nature….(My guess would be that with the normally reckless and slip-shod way the Chinese make & handle everything, they were just as unforgivably negligent with their weapons-grade uranium/plutonium—and that those poor chaps are only the tip of an atomic iceberg they are desperately trying to hide from the world)….
As with the UNFORGIVABLE WAY the Chinese handled deadly viruses in their Wuhan lab—resulting in the deaths of hundreds of millions—the Chinese are going to kill all of us one day, with their incompetent activities and their reckless disregard for the well-being of others….Despicable people.

(Bless the Greeks, you never forget)….However, you’re talking 250 years ago….Unfortunately, in the succeeding three centuries, Haitians scorned the importance of Western education, allowing pre-medieval paganism, culture & character to take over — with disastrous results.…
As the nation produced no scholars, engineers or doctors, the country grew into inter-connected hovels (built with any scraps available), lacking in medical care and even the most basic infrastructure—the entirety of the State soaking in corruption, at every level of society…A nation in which over 50% of girls under 12 have been raped at least once….This brief vid doesn’t even come close to describing the horror show that is Haiti……

Haha….Luckily, she CAN’T….Sentebale (the African charity, whose name means “Remember Me”) was established long before MM came into the picture….The foundation’s format (of being run and operated by a Board that works pro bono, and is composed of mainly very wealthy individuals with track records of charitable involvement, and impeccable reputations) cannot be changed, barring a major catastrophe ….
…Furthermore, “Sentebale” has an additional stopgap measure aimed at preventing fraud : Funds are directly administered —not by the Board—but by an independent, third-party accounting firm (believe it’s “Ernst & Whinny”), which is also responsible for conducting quarterly audits on the charity….Sentebale’s charter instructs that: 90% of received donations be distributed on a quarterly basis (four times a year), with 10% reserved from every quarter in order to address unforeseen needs (with “needs” defined in the text as being “catastrophic events,” such as war, earthquakes, major floods, major pandemics, etc ), in which case, at the Board’s discretion, all remaining funds may be immediately distributed”….
In other words, Sentebale represents the “gold standard” for how all charities SHOULD be set up and administered (which also makes it VERY clear that MM had no hand in it :)

WHO do you think has to PAY FOR those 10 million, non-English speakers?……The AVERAGE U.S. State has been forced : 1) To hire an AVERAGE of 865 Spanish interpreters for schools, law enforcement, and judicial systems @ an average salary of $72,000/year each…..2) To hire an AVERAGE of 1,200 new teachers….3) To provide housing, meals, medical treatment, etc. ….And so much more
….And, this doesn’t include the immediate, individual impact on Americans—Climbing migrant crime rate ….long wait times for medical treatment (due to migrants clogging the system)….Overcrowded class rooms….reemergence of communicable diseases once eradicated….etc.

One grievously underestimated contributing factor to the “racial wealth gap” is a generalized ignorance regarding basic money management—including basic investing and the importance of savings to future wealth outcomes….
A 2010 study (which is ongoing) comparing the “wealth accumulation” of different groups over time, found that among African Americans, Latinos, and recent Asian immigrants, within ten years, the Asian immigrants had accumulated 15X the wealth of African Americans, and 9X the wealth of Latinos. Particularly striking was the rate of savings between the three groups, with Asians saving, on average, 20% of earned income, Latinos, 12%….and African Americans, less than 2%….
What is important about the above study is that its results mimic other, similar ones….Whatever is decided upon in regards to reparations, serious thought must be put into adding money management courses as a mandatory requirement to a public school education….

How has it gone “beyond self defense” when Israel has not even caught most of the perpetrators? Every terrorist who took part in the planning and implementation of the mass killings must be caught—or they WILL regroup, and attack again. (As they have warned).
The fact that the terrorists choose to cowardly hide among civilians doesn’t negate Israel’s responsibility to IT’S PEOPLE to destroy them….If Gazans choose to ignore Israeli warnings to evacuate, that is on them…..If they are unwilling/unable to move south ( 15 min. drive/3-hr walk), they can shelter at the hospitals in safety, also at any of the UN schools — either are within a very short walk to most Gazans
Only, please—- let’s not pretend that a large % of Gazans aren’t strong supporters of Hamas ( or that they haven’t helped them in material ways : working in their weapons factories, hiding them/their weapons, fetching supplies for them, etc. )….
The sight of hundreds of Gazans celebrating, as poor Shauni Louk’s half-naked & abused body was “danced” through Gaza’s streets made me physically ill—as did Hamas’ playing of the body cam videos showing the torture-deaths of Israeli families — shown against the outside wall of Gaza Hospital at night 3 days ago, to crowds of cheering Gazans…..Are they “innocent?” (Only God knows — but I will say this : Hamas is only a flame. It needs fuel to burn — and many, many Gazans are that fuel )….

….I think Great Britain might argue with your definition of the Qing Dynasty, in the late eighteenth Century, being “the largest & most prosperous empire” in the world (I know that the Chinese frequently trumpet this “fact,” however, I fail to see by what metrics they make such claims)….
“Prosperity?”….Other than the Emperor, his Court & minions, and “officials” scattered throughout the land, I would argue that the “average” Chinese was quite a bit less prosperous than the average British citizen (and as for “greatness,” pardon me if I stifle a laugh, but if you’ve ever read the Qing Emperor’s letter to King George III—in which he states that he’s certain that Great Britain was a “nice, little country,” but that it could have nothing at all to teach China, as China was THE celestial kingdom)….And in terms of land mass, when Britain’s many colonies were factored in—including India—the fact that Qing rule was limited to only one country, makes it appear rather….constricted, by comparison….
China was “great” (certainly in its own eyes)—but at least 1-2 Centuries BEHIND the British in science, medicine—and certainly, in military advances & engineering….Chinese arrogance led to their undoing….At best, I MIGHT agree that China was the “most prosperous “ in ASIA AT THAT TIME, however, they were less “great” than Japan (whose people had -and have-a critical asset that the Chinese lack : the ability to quickly adapt, and reinvent themselves, whereas the Chinese cling to false visions of their supposed “grandeur”)….

I have studied Japan for over 20 years (and lived there, as well)….Few civilisations in history have been as creative, brilliant….or brutal as the Japanese. I have often thought that, had its population been larger throughout its history, it certainly would have dominated its neighbour, China, and would, no doubt, have been a far more difficult challenge for the West in later centuries….
Unfortunately, along with its tremendous assets, come the reverse : an unimaginable brutality that has been in the Japanese character since its earliest history (the centuries of Samarai warfare led to a bizarre combination of barbarism, along with “blood etiquette rituals,” as gruesome as they are fascinating)….Howevet, to attempt a comparison with “US Imperialism” and the mass-genocide/mass-rapes/mass-war crimes of the Japanese during WWII is more than a bit disingenuous of this channel….The Japanese butchered millions….
While there are few peoples I admire as much as the Japanese, I do so clear-eyed….as with every culture, acknowledging the positive AND the negative aspects….

@@tesuparman Not what I said. The IDF says that HAMAS has “tens of thousands of members” in Gaza. Hamas says they have “hundreds of thousands” in Gaza. Treating Hamas’ claim as numbers inflation, I’m going with the IDF numbers: “tens of thousands “ (let’s say, “40,000”)
The average Gazan family has 6.9 - 7.3 members (again, depending on sources—I’ll go with “7” )….Seven X 40,000 = 280,000 (and that’s not including these members’ friends, grandparents, etc — most of whom, presumably, would be aware of their terrorists membership )….The point is: That’s a fairly hefty % of Gazan residents ( and your saying, “That doesn’t make them complicit” is kinda ….lame. How MANY “friends” do you have who are terrorists that butcher little kids)?
And I know Gaza quite well. I worked there for 4 months with Médecin Sans Frontières in 2020

Sheriff Hou is a somewhat odd, little man — who has been working very hard to always show a “happy” expression — something, one gets the feeling, that doesn’t come naturally to him ….However, he has been learning to conceal many things from potential voters (including an explosive temper)…..
Ko-Wen, I’ve always found to be the most fascinating : A man with an enormous ego—but one who has been an extreme “late bloomer” (not discovering the narcotic properties of power & adulation until age 55, when he was elected mayor of Taipei City)….
It is this “addiction,” I believe, that has led him to change core beliefs the way others change their socks : Going from being a strong supporter of the DPP — to, when candidate slots weren’t available, attempting to become mayoral candidate for the polar-opposite KMT Party ( and when rebuffed, forming his own Party)….
Ko-wen has also long been dogged by rumors that he knowingly acquired donor organs for patients from the CCP’s live prisoner organ harvesting program (Ko-Wen has adamantly denied the rumors—but an attempted libel lawsuit he brought against one of his accusers was denied by the judge)….
Of the 3 candidates, Ko-Wen scares me the most—there’s a whole lot of “empty” behind his eyes….

….I wonder how DW approached Kissinger for this documentary? Did they inform him that they intended to do a hit job ( complete with appropriately creepy music )? ….Did they tell him that the people they had lined up to interview on his behalf were mainly fierce critics of his? ….Did they tell him how they would edit his comments ( few consecutive sentences/ideas, many disjointed thoughts )? ….I doubt it.
No, Kissinger wasn’t what I’d call a “great guy.” He lacked a moral center — and was a sort of living piece of AI, programmed to make decisions purely on the basis of “country first” ( where values such as “truth,” “justice” & “kindness” had no place, and little consideration was given to the collateral damage that might be generated from decisions he made)…
That being said, DW hardly comes off much better.…Few things have done more to contribute to the low opinion the public have of the news media than, “Hijack Interviews” ( especially when the subject is a frail, 90-year-old )….This doc felt both exploitative & deceptive….If DW had made this film WITHOUT the presence of H.K., I would have had a totally different reaction to it….But, as it is……

Well, he said it : “The means justify the ends”…..( Not that we didn’t ALL see it : 3 yrs of Russiagate, 6 yrs of LawFare, permanently besmirching the reputations of the CIA & FBI, and having the MSM pile on daily, recklessly throwing terms like “fascist” around)….
We could SMELL your desperation ( and your despicable tactics only made ppl like me decide that you not only didn’t deserve to win, you COULDN’T win )……Your nasty, unfair, irresponsible tactics are what SANK you—-and you haven’t learned a damned thing….So, buckle up, buttercups : Republicans WILL be in charge for a very LONG time (wait for it ) 😂

@mattgairns7565 (I can’t speak for “people like” the previous responders, only for myself, but yes, I DO hope that China’s economy becomes much, MUCH worse)….
Today’s Chinese have demonstrated an extraordinary capacity for suffering at the hands of their Government—and, as having their family members starved to death, their reproduction limited, basic freedoms, rights, and even thoughts suppressed, all haven’t caused them to overthrow their overlords — perhaps enough pain in their pockets will….
Unfortunate, but it will likely take far more extreme events before there is change—for the NEXT generation’s sake

I live in Charleston, South Carolina, and our senior Senator, Lindsay Graham, is probably THE most “pro-Israel” Senator in the U.S. Senate ( while our junior Senator, Tim Scott, is likely the second most pro-Israel )….
Our State is composed of large Jewish and even larger Christian communities ( who are friends, and are in LOCK-STEP on matters of Israel )….The entire, U.S. South, in fact, is composed of Israel’s greatest supporters …

….One thing that Singapore had that Haiti does not : Singaporeans.….
There is so much wrong with Haitian society, it’s really hard to know where to start….How about the fact that the MAJORITY of Haitian girls are raped before the age of 12? Due to many factors (not least of which, the strong belief that “raping a virgin” will cure STDs & AIDS—both of which are epidemic in the country)….Add to this, very low literacy rates, a celebrated violent national character, a reputation for being “work shy,” deep-seated, mystic beliefs (which some compare to pre-medieval paganism), and corruption, so deep and wide-spread, that there isn’t a single Haitian institution not infected by it….
Haitians are Centuries behind their Western peers—-and many decades behind most of the third world….Only competent leadership brought in from OUTSIDE Haiti—along with enough military muscle to back it up—would give the country even a fighting chance of survival….And yet, if that step were taken, Haitians would most likely demand “Independence” and “self-rule.” ……Unfortunately, there are some cultures that are their own, worst enemy—and some countries hell-bent on national suicide….

Kinsey, your bone structure is so near-perfect, your eyes, naturally large, and your mouth (though a bit over-wide, when using dark lipstick) has a nice shape, that you’re one of the few women who still look lovely without makeup (and I DO have some professional knowledge on the subject)….
….When you DO go back to your war paint, I would make two suggestions : Use a NEUTRAL lip shade—to deemphasize your mouth’s width (and do NOT extend lipliner to your mouth’s corners—end liner 1/4–1/8” prior to the mouth’s natural corners)…Even more important: I would DEF go LIGHTER (more translucent) on your foundation + powder…You have naturally lovely skin—you don’t need such HEAVY COVERAGE foundation (it’s the over-HEAVY foundation + powder you use, I’ll wager, that the viewer was referencing…it’s VERY artificial-looking and aging)…A tinted moisturizer, followed by light powder, should be perfect for you (and will give you a much more “natural” look)….
The blush, eyeshadow & brows you normally wear—and their application—all look good; they are nice neutrals, and require no changes…You could easily do without the false eyelashes, and switch to a light mascara—but, up to you….However, I really think that if you were to make those two changes (lip shade + foundation/powder) you won’t be hearing any more complaints about your “makeup.”….People will only see the lovely (and natural) YOU.

@hrmsdai As she IS a Chinese citizen, it’s completely irrelevant WHO her “boyfriend” is—or whether he did the filming , production, downloading, etc, or not. Chinese citizens are NOT allowed to film in China, “represent” China in any way (including as a tour guide, historian, host, etc) without CCP permission (who review all content and edit out anything they don’t like before allowing it to be downloaded)
There are hundreds of thousands of CCP Internet Security Analysts—whose only job is to scour Western media sites for content downloaded by Chinese Nationals; the Government spends (far) more on this (and the massive army of internet trolls they use to leave “pro-China” comments on Western sites) than they spend for all Chinese police departments, combined…A channel as high-profile as hers would never miss their intent supervision….The Government ranks “soft propaganda “ (such as “Always-Happy-And-Interesting-Chinese Woman’s-Travels-Showing-Happy-Chinese” videos) as being extremely important in influencing people’s opinions on China….
Enjoy the vids—just know : EVERY, single trip (and many of the “common folk” she happens to interview along the way) have been chosen & pre-approved by the government, and anyone interviewed who didn’t show appropriate “contentedness” have been edited out….(You also might ask yourself how a young woman, from a “lower-middle-class” family—as she mentioned on one of her vids—can afford to pay for several years’ worth of non-stop travel….airline tickets….hotels….train fares, not only within China—but throughout Europe) ? And all, with no visible means of support (no, what she makes from YouTube wouldn’t even come close) …As she said at the end of her LAST trip, “I’ve been traveling non-stop for seven months now”…. Judging also by the professional camera crew she now has accompanying her, I would wager that she is being completely subsidized by the CCP, who see the propaganda value of her channel….If you spend enough time in China, you begin to understand how they work….
Like I say, enjoy the travels—just always keep in mind that each episode is as carefully choreographed as any off-Broadway play….

@TaoDeChing-ls5gz ….If you’re referring solely to inventiveness, ingenuity & curiosity about the Natural World, few students of world history would argue with you (that those of European & East Asian heritage displayed an acute curiosity, and the drive to constantly “improve” existing systems)….
However, both Europe & East Asia, it can be argued, valued “individual” excellence & achievement over “community achievement & stability”….S. Americans tended to form very homogeneous, smaller, multi-generational homes & communities, where group dynamics were valued over those of the individual (and, as for Latin Americans “not forming proper cities,” I think the Incas & the Aztecs might beg to differ with you)….

….I agree. I know that Marcos is respected in the West, in general, and in the US in particular …His father was a trusted ally, and the US is finding the son to be equally so (I work at The US State Dept…As our Chief of Asia Region said, “Marcos may not agree with us on everything, but he tells us upfront what he can and cannot do—and then he sticks to it”….He also said that, “He tells us what he wants from us for his people, and when we shake hands, we don’t have to worry about him showing up on television the next day, saying the opposite, while America-bashing (like Duterte did)”
….ASEAN is very fortunate to have such a leader at this critical juncture….We all are.

“Legacy Admissions” now make up LESS than 2% of admissions for all of the Ivies ( that’s, on average, “18” students—out of a freshman class of 2,000 )…Additionally, so-called “Legacy” students must have SAT scores no less than “10 points” below the “average ACCEPTED student” at the school…. (These are scores, btw, that are much higher than the scores that were required for students who were admitted under the same schools’ former “diversity” admissions programs)….
There are, in fact, more benefactors’ kids who are turned down—than who are accepted by their parent’s Ivy. …Ppl who want to believe otherwise will never understand : But, it helps neither the donor, the student (his kid), nor the school’s reputation, if the student is expelled or drops out for being unable to do the work or compete with his peers ( or who never ends up graduating at all )….Every potential donor is told upfront that their kid’s acceptance is not a given, & depends upon their scores….(I worked in Admissions)

Ah….yes…fears of another “colonization,” of sorts…I know that in the US, along with most Western countries, no such bans exist, as corporations from other countries own much land and large stakes in US corporations (with limits or outright bans for countries deemed “unfriendly” to US interests)…
Even in the US, such foreign investment & ownership has been crucial to the success of several industries & businesses that had trouble attracting local investment (or when investment has been insufficient)….Though fears of being “overrun” are understandable, they def hurt investment & development (and really have no place in today’s rule-based system)….The trick, of course, is to limit ownership to countries that have been long-term allies, and ones that have rule of law (under US law, for example, corporations are subservient to national laws—so that if, for example, the Philippines decided to nationalize corporations that Americans had majority stakes in—the US corporations would have to agree to a buy-out, and to leave)….That’s your protection (but, of course, not all countries adhere to the those laws—mainly some Asian & former Eastern Bloc countries)…
I’ve always felt that The Philippines had enormous potential. I hope you (finally) get NEW ppl in your political system to shake up the Old Boys Club, change the laws—and rid your country of the corruption that, interestingly, goes hand-in-hand with such laws (most Western corporations use strict auditing practices. Corruption would be much harder to get away with)….

@myaq8410 Everyone already KNOWS that she was Black- esp the right (it’s in the Bible, for * sake)….(There was a more recent adaptation, btw—in the 50s🤣—It was one of the “Bible Epics” they seemed to make a lot….but, again, they used a “dyed” white actress, I think Susan Hayward, as the Queen……Way past time for an update)
If they get a decent writer and cast the main roles well, it would do great, as it would appeal to a very wide audience, and be seen as a “new” story (let’s face it: Cleo has been done to death)…. As to “Blowback” to the actress being Black (as the Queen WAS), I think that would happen in a VERY small group. Actresses with talent & charisma are always loved (“Witney Houston” The Bodyguard, Halle Berry, Monster’s Ball, most of the female cast of “Hamilton” were all loved)…not to mention, Big Little Lies, The Handmaid’s Tale, Skyfall, Precious (just thinking of hit “crossover” movies)…
I think blowback right now is happening largely because of what a lot of ppl see as too much gender/race swapping (esp. with historical figures). As that wouldn’t be the case with QS (I suppose if producers wanted to be anal, they could limit the role to AA actresses “of” African, rather than Caribbean, descent :), but with the gorgeous sets, costumes & historical era, if it’s well-written, it would be a hit….(And SHAME on JPS —when explaining why she chose to do Cleopatra : “There aren’t any African Queens that are readily accessible” (maybe she’s just ignorant on history)…In any case, It’s Time.

@badomen9057 ….From your prior comments, it hardly surprises that you would frame ignoble intentions ( throwing tomatoes from the sidelines ) as principled action….But, it won’t do.
While brushing up on Ethics, you might wish to fill the obviously empty void you have in Twentieth-Century history….The past eighty years have represented the greatest span of time—in all of world history—in which no wars among the earth’s major powers were fought….This wasn’t serendipity. It is the RESULT of the rules-based order that the U.S. designed, implemented—and enforced (and continues to enforce)….If you think that we “tilt the game” so that most of the balls go into our own holes, you’re correct : It’s the one benefit of being the game architect (on the deficit side, we also shoulder the greatest burden—both financially & with human capital)….
We do not always get it right—but most ppl with a decent grounding in world history agree that a better system for maintaining (even a sometimes tense) equilibrium among powers has yet to be found….And always, the Authoritarians are on our heels, and closing the distance ( today, they are Russia, China & Iran)….Democracies are an ever-shrinking minority….It is easy to dismiss what you have & do not understand if you haven’t lived in an alternate system, or haven’t a deep understanding of world history 1850-1950….I would recommend filling in those gaps (if you wish to be an effective “opposition”), otherwise, you’re merely an angry voice in the Peanut Gallery….
Such fascination with “account dates.” ( Not everyone has employment that allows them the luxury of YouTube accounts )

This is one of the most convoluted rationalizations I have heard any analyst yet give on the HB saga….To say that HB wanted immunity “in order to protect himself” from an alleged witch trial by some future (fantasy) Trump Admin is carrying Hunter’s water to the nth degree….
A future “Trump Admin” could “use the Justice Dept” to go after his political enemies (you mean the way the CURRENT Admin has weaponized Justice against Trump? Swear to god, we’re looking more & more like a banana republic—with folks like you singing, “Burn, baby, burn!” Btw, I am not a Republican & I did not vote for Trump, but, JC, can’t you see what’s happening to this country??
We’ve got Xi’s economy (and grip on power) imploding in the East—and it seems as if no one has ever picked up a history book to learn what happens when Authoritarians are losing support….A blockade/invasion of Taiwan IS coming (sooner than you “nattering nabobs of negativism” think)….Put the damned knives away. Past presidents have done FAR WORSE than what Trump is accused of (and half of the country sees these multiple—many ridiculous—lawsuits as witch hunts)….
No, it is NOT because Hunter “fears future prosecution” by a nonexistent Trump Admin. Trump is NOT going to be President again (and he darn well knows it)….He fears what he likely has good reason to fear : Pay-outs from foreign Governments (for access—as the “son of the then-VP)….And what’s more, anyone with any wits knows it…. The man’s ethics are nonexistent….
IF this had been “Donald Jr” (same charges)—YOU would be screaming bloody murder about his “SWEETHEART DEAL” (and do insult our intelligence by pretending otherwise)….Pathetic that you are what passes for “journalists”….If more of you spent any good amount of time living in (not visiting) other countries, you might have an inkling of what we are slowly losing in this country with these RIDICULOUS “culture wars”…..Grow UP. Really trying times are coming. We cannot AFFORD to be so divided.

….From the Right and Center, anger over the DEI agenda of Jewish BlackRock founder & CEO Larry Fink (and demanded of the thousands of corporations BR invests in)….Anger against Jewish Disney CEO Bob Iger (for pushing the same agenda in films many parents no longer regard as “family-friendly”)….Anger against Jewish FaceBook/Meta founder, Mark Zuckerberg, for targeted censorship of Conservatives….
I could go on (with many more examples), but aside from their shared Jewish heritage, these men also share a worldview that is markedly to-the-Left of the average American, along with great power & influence—and seem to equally share a zeal for shoving this agenda “down the throats” of Americans (who, through their rejection of their movies & products, have shown an equal inclination to reject it)….
The Left will claim the Palestinian issue….But, Middle America (who these men are completely dependent upon for their success) is increasingly alienated from what they see as zealots (with a similar M.O.) who live in a small, urban echo chamber, and who seem to believe themselves to be the “Arbiters of Culture,” with nothing but disdain for the opinions of the MAJORITY….

You can’t reason or explain to young ppl—who are largely fueled by emotion, hormones & Tik-Tok—and whose ignorance of the history of the Palestinian ppl (not to mention the many inhuman outrages they have regularly unleashed on the world ), leaves one breathless with disbelief….
….Blowing up school buses full of Israeli kids…..Conducting a full-blown terrorist raid during the Summer Olympics—when Palestinian terrorists kidnapped the Israeli weightlifting team—and slaughtered every last one….Hijacking commercial aircraft, before blowing up the planes….Paying every Palestinian who has killed an Israeli a pension for life….
There’s a REASON none of Palestinians’ neighbors want them (or will even allow them to visit) : Every country—Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon —that was kind enough to give displaced Palestinians a place to live, ended up either killing them (Jordan), expelling them, or revoking their citizenship, because Palestinians quickly formed military units and attempted to overthrow the leadership of those countries (in Lebanon’s case, they were instrumental in starting the civil war)….
Personally, I could never join a protest unless I had thoroughly studied the issues (I’m too independent-minded for GroupThink, anyway)….The fact that so many supposedly “educated” kids are comfortable supporting a cause which they know so little about, and/or are so prone to GroupThink , makes one shiver in contemplating the future

@finaLee69 ….If “China is the future,” guess we all should prepare for massive unemployment, financial instability, population collapse, polluted air, earth and water, massive State corruption, concentration camps, Tofu Dreg infrastructure, divisive Wolf Warrior “diplomacy,” the bullying of neighbour States, loss of personal freedoms, loss of freedom of travel, poisoned food, being “welded” into our homes, forced into quarantine centers, lied to about diseases & death tolls, etc, etc, etc…..
What a horrific future.

….I couldn’t think of more opposite cultures: Even in ancient “more superstitious “ times, the Chinese were constantly inventing & learning — often far ahead of the European “learning curve” in matters of art & science….Native Americans, while having a valuable culture in its reverence for the environment, were usually hostile to change, never developed a written language, and preferred to live as their ancestors always had……
“Evaluating” cultures is always a tricky thing to do — depends upon whether one weighs a particular culture for the “value” it has brought to the wider world (say, engineering, medicine, literature, etc.) or, whether, “living simply,” without creating a ripple beyond one’s own doorstep is of equal value….

Uh….No. By any human measure, in fact, colonialism brought far more “to” the colonized rhan it took “from” them….Whether it was schools, advanced medicine, courts of law, infrastructure, etc., studies show that in almost every case, there was a measurable increase in lifespan, in education—for BOTH sexes—and eradication of common, often fatal, diseases among “colonized” ppl….
No doubt that colonized countries def “lost” a lot in culture, but their “gains” were also usually enormous ….”Bad” colonizations would be Communist takeovers—where living standards almost always DROPPED , and also Islamic invasions—which, in addition to all of the material losses, women were sent back into the stone ages….

@asturiasceltic3183 Save the condescension for someone else. My “information” comes from interviews with Spanish Republican leaders, interviews with Stalin aide, Sergei Asmonov (1930-1939) and from the lips of people who fought on the Republican side (in addition to significant research on the subject)….
In addition to providing the majority of arms used by the Republicans, Stalin provided over 1,000 Soviet tank crews & pilots, and over 300 Soviet military advisors (who rapidly moved to dominate Republican leadership)….One of the primary reasons for the Republicans swift demise after 1938 was due to the in-fighting between the Anarchists & Spanish Republicans, on one side and the Soviet-led faction, on the other….Stalin scaled back aid dramatically as Hitler’s armaments & pilots began taking an unaffordable toll—then ceased, entirely, when German feelers were first put out regarding what would become the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact….
Though the question as to whether Stalin had specific “designs” on Spain as a “satellite” or not has never been definitively answered, most historians suggest that had the Soviet-German pact not occurred, Spain would likely have fallen into the Soviet sphere.

So tired of seeing Chinese : “Crying,” “Striking,” “Leaving Long, Blubbering Accounts on Weibo,” and , my personal favorite : “Threatening THEIR OWN Suicide” — all, because their bank, employer, local Government, etc., has robbed them blind….
This is the inevitable RESULT of their choosing to “Live on their knees,” rather than to fight the system, “Dying on their feet,” if necessary ….No cure for cowardice.

The (current) RF are perfectly aligned with Nat West’s embrace of wokeness….From Chuck—to William—and down to Harry, the RF would be considered by most GB viewers as FAR-Left….(I KNOW what I’m talking about). Chuck drilled his Uber-Leftist principles deep into the skulls of his sons —yes, “even” William….Why do you think he is besties with former NZ PM Arden (who was considered the “farthest Left head of State of any Western country)?….Why do you think he INSTANTLY sacked his grandmother’s LONG-TIME Lady-in-waiting—on the basis of ONE mere accusation by a notorious Black rabble-rouser?….Why did Chuck AND WILL become so infuriated with the Government’s proposal to send prospective asylum seekers (young, male economic migrants) to a non-aligned, third country while status is determined—instead of allowing ALL to remain in the UK @ taxpayer expense? “Inhumane” & “Barbarous “ BOTH said….Not to mention, membership AND FULL ENDORSEMENT of the WEF (and its many “plans” to “enforce fairness” on ppl of Western countries)….As for EXTREME climate activism, I could write paragraphs on that ALONE (hint: they are more fully in step with Extinction Rebellion than they allow to be made known)….
In short, the current RF are as woke a bunch as you’ll ever meet (their support FOR themselves, the RF, being the one exception)….Funny, how the “LEAST WOKE” among them (Anne, Edward & Sophie) also happen to be the family members Chuck is least close to (notwithstanding Andrew, of course)….If slamming the brakes on “wokeness” were a major consideration in our Monarch, the RF would be best-served by skipping a few members—and elevating Sophie & Edward, instead (their children, esp. Lady Louise, is likewise, far more conservative than her cousins)….

….You sound exactly like a member of failed communities & countries throughout the world….You may not understand this now, but that kind of resentful Nationalism is NEVER heard from people who are actually “proud” of their heritage — but from those who are secretly ashamed (and are looking for a target to blame for what they feel is their country’s LACK of success)….
What usually follows : “Re-naming” your country or community. (Example : African Americans went from calling themselves “negroes”….to “colored”…..to “Black”…..to “African American”). You will learn that “changing” your name doesn’t fix your issues — as “Turkey” (now, Turkeia, or something, will discover)…..Next, comes “hyper-Nationalism” (where members of the community are “shamed” for saying anything “positive” about their former “oppressor” — or, for having friends from that nation) …..Finally, the country/community devolves into a jumble of competing Nationalists—each, trying to “out-India” each other (and along with this comes a really ugly intolerance—snippets of which I’m hearing from you)…..
Such societies NEVER become as prosperous/successful as they could have been.…In fact, they often become failed States. Achievement is substituted with a misplaced arrogance (such as one hears when Indians discuss their military : “WE don’t NEED any country’s help fighting China—our military can do it alone!”)…..I am merely cautioning you : Be CAREFUL. (Have you ever considered being GRATEFUL for the many blessings that Britain brought you — far more, I believe, than Indians will admit to….Like the fact that there would be no “India” today, if not for the British—-just DOZENS of feuding Principalities, with Indian Raj’s heading each one)?

@karenfrederick8991 ….Yes, unfortunately, the few H&M charities I had a chance to examine (Archewell , The VING Project & SmartWorks) have all, indeed, been incorporated in the State of DE (which tends to, by itself, ring “alarm bells” for charity watchdog groups, as DE has among the weakest oversight laws—and extremely opaque corporate accountability laws—making it the #1 State for incorporation by new businesses, and where most corporations—not charities—list their company headquarters)….
Neither Archewell nor VING appear to have separate entities ( a main board, an oversight committee, and an accounting group—which would provide “checks and balances” on where money is coming from, how much there is, where & how much is distributed—and whether donations are coming from “acceptable” sources)….
In both cases (info on SmartWorks was incomplete), the “Board” members from both charities appear to wear several hats (note: These are NOT considered “Best practices” for charities)….Both charities also appear to be “withholding” an unusually high % of donations received (usually, if “withholdings” exceed 20% of annual monies received, the charity is required to “explain” the reasons—along with providing proof such funds are secure)….However, as H & M’s charities, themselves, are incorporated in DE, such strict charity laws may be easier to skirt….If I were the Feds/Revenue, I would be going over H & M’s books with a fine tooth comb….

Don’t believe it. All of that “time” will also make Taiwan & allies near-invincible ( AUS - nuke subs….Taiwan — fully armed….Japan — quadruple its current firepower….Even Philippines—armed & trained….
My guess is that China will “take” Taiwan the way they take everything: via salami-slicing — First, they will occupy the Taiwanese island just a few miles off China’s coast (knowing the U.S. won’t “start WWII” over such an “insignificant,” tiny landmass ( even though it IS Taiwanese land)….Wait for tensions to simmer down, then, when the U.S. is diverted by a MidEast conflict, etc, they will blockade the Taiwan strait — AGAIN, daring the U.S. to “attack” first….
They will anticipate diplomatic attempts ( during which, the Taiwanese may very well capitulate — even if the U.S. isn’t too keen on it )….Or, they may well begin with a blockade….Point is, Xi will act (as he always has) NOT according to “optimally logical conditions,” but on other considerations—like the survival of the CCP (or according to his mystical beliefs—and he has some doozies )….

@GonzoTehGreat @Chopsticksandtrains ….Not quite, Chopsticks. China’s “rise” (and its potential to rival the US) was “noticed” and written about much earlier (around 2012)….The “sea change” in public sentiment toward China was actually due to several events, all occurring in succession (and with a great deal of assistance by the current, incompetent Chinese leader)….
Firstly, Xi’s insecurity and his impatience to be seen as a major global “player,” prodded him to indulge in very aggressive geopolitical actions and language (but what he considered to be— in his own unsophisticated & parochial worldview—“masculine self-confidence”)……ISLAND BUILDING (in disputed waters)….ISLAND-GRABBING (again, of disputed land)….CHASING Filipino, Vietnamese & Indonesian fishermen out of their own EEZs (using One-Two punches of “fishing” boats—filled with PLA-trained me, who chased nationals out of their own waters—backed up with PLA Coast Guard ships, that moved in to use force on stragglers)…..REFUSAL to accept, or even recognize, UN legal guidelines…..REFUSAL to accept legal rulings (or even arbitration)….
Of course, the above aggressions were always accompanied by the (ridiculously named) “wolf warrior” politics/ language (what the Chinese apparently consider to be “tough” & “masculine”—and the rest of the world, “boorish & thuggish”)….Then, of course, there was American President Donald Trump’s one, valuable contribution : His pointing out (day after long day) —in both charts and numbers—the sheer size of the trade imbalance which existed between the US & China (and the additional unfair advantage the Chinese had, by continuing to make use of “developing nation” status, saving them huge amounts in tariff charges)….
Along with the trade numbers came the allegations of “technology transfers” and theft (and the proof—on a scale that shocked most Americans) ….
And THEN (finally), came the “Wuhan” Virus….The origins (and likely disease vectors) were bad enough—but, when Americans saw President Xi “grounding” ALL domestic flights in China, shortly after the outbreak—while Chinese INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS continued on their merry way, with the Chinese people (along with the virus they carried) visiting all four corners of the earth, as China, itself, was being turned into a prison….well, gee, slow as we are, we began to NOTICE….
And that, my friend, was the real “timeline” for most Americans to begin opening their eyes to what CHINA was, and is, doing….

I have to say: The sheer chutzpah of Chinese complaints of “containment” is breathtaking—especially considering that the Chinese 100% owe the US for their economic rise …..
After all, it was the Americans that established diplomatic relations with China, effectively ending their isolation….The US also enthusiastically supportied China’s bid to join WTO ( which in turn, caused their export markets to explode )….and, it was US—not Chinese—taxpayers who bore the full cost of patrolling the sea routes used by China to ensure the safe transport of their goods….
As for Chinese charges of “containment,” they’re ludicrous—BASED ON WHAT THE CHINESE ARE SAYING THEY WANT : “Free, unhindered travel of Chinese ships in the Indo-Pacific” ( The Chinese are well-aware that they already have such freedom of navigation. Always have. So, what REALLY is it that they want)?….One word : “PRIMACY” ( As in, “China expects free, unhindered travel of its ships in the Indo-Pacific, giving China primacy in the region” )….How would giving China primacy in the region change things as opposed to the current U.S.-led system?
We already have a pretty good idea, based on China’s treatment of its China Sea neighbors with which it has maritime disputes : the Indo-Pacific would become a less stable area, where bullying was rife ( and where “Might makes right”—as can be seen monthly, as Beijing harasses, makes irresponsible & unprofessional “close calls” with ships & aircraft from other countries that it believes is “violating” its sovereignty ….
Finally, such an Indo-Pacific region (with China at its head) would set the stage for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan—Which will happen over the West’s dead body…..So, really, ALL of China’s moaning & groaning amounts to little more than “vanity”….”face”….(call it what you will : on essentials nothing would change much—other than Chinese bragging rights about being the “Primary” power in the region….Unfortunately, however, China has proved many times that it can’t be trusted (or the U.S. might cede such superficial titles to them)….History has shown, however, that such a move would likely lead to the immediate invasion of Taiwan..

@@badofi ….Really? You don’t see it in Singapore?….I have (very) long ties to Singapore (with many family members still living there). They tell me frequently about the growing pro-Beijing sentiment they are seeing there….The vast majority of Singaporeans are, of course, ethnic Chinese (and even though they are third, fourth & fifth-generation, there is something about Chinese culture that seems to exert a different effect on those raised with it from those born into other cultures —and this effect seems to transcend nationality)….
When, say, a Japanese or a German family emigrate to Australia, for example, they tend to become 100% “Australian” by the second generation, their values & beliefs indistinguishable from those of 20th-generation Australians….We have seen a different picture with ethnic Chinese—in EVERY country they emigrate to (not just “Western” ones)….Perhaps it’s due to the indoctrination they are brought up with (irregardless of birthplace), but they show statistically verifiable “divided loyalties.”
I’ll be returning to Singapore in March for a month’s visit, and will see/hear for myself whether this phenomenon IS increasing….

@andrewc318 ….Yeah, unfortunately, that’s one point that will never be answered with certainty.….But I was intrigued over why the use of Mercury as a cure for Syphillis was so ubiquitous during this era—when its terrible (often fatal) side effects were well known, even among the common people…
Given these facts, I was looking for one answer : “ Why, if ineffective, was relatively cheap Mercury consistently used—when far more exotic ( and more expensive ) “quack” cures could have been pushed by physicians, instead ?” (My Master’s dissertation was on 17th-19th C British Medicine )
Looking at patient records from the greater London area ( mainly St. Guy’s & St. Bart’s), in around 25-30% of patients given the “Mercury Cure,” their Syphillis DID appear to go into remission….But because Syphillis will often do so on its own ( only to come raging back, 2-20 years later ), I could only rely on those patients for whom long-term records were available. Of this group ( of 42), 15 remained symptom-free, 20+ years after the original treatment …
Of course, this doesn’t represent “proof.” I just think that our ancestors weren’t that dissimilar to us, when it came to medical care : because Syphillis was such a common affliction, most men would have friends who had had it—and would know the treatments they had received ( and whether they “worked” or not )….If Mercury didn’t have at least some successes, I just think it doubtful that it would have continued to have been employed….As for one’s “immune system” curing Syphillis, there are no medical examples of this, that I am aware of (however, those with very strong immune systems might, in theory, have their Syphillis go into permanent remission) ….Syphillis was, and is, such a virulent & aggressive disease, such individuals would be rare, indeed

No comparison. Trump zips from event to event, speaking for 2 hrs without notes—while Biden “speaks” maybe once a month, using a giant teleprompter ( he hasn’t even held a press conference in months, aides are so busy hiding him away)….Anyone can, off the cuff, name multiple, bizarre Biden gaffes. Whereas, Trump’s “shark” story seems to be the only thing I’ve heard repeated over & over—when it’s really just quintessential, crazy Trump (like his Covid “bleach” suggestion), and doesn’t affect the public’s perception of him….
I’m a Libertarian, thank God—as I could never gaslight myself into believing that the shuffling, stiff-armed, staring-into-space zombie is anywhere NEAR “OK” (You’d better hope that Dems get Biden to bow out before the election—as ppl have EYES—and the gaslighting isn’t working )….

I’m a mother of three—and raised my kids to take responsibility for their actions….I would never pardon one of my kids if they were convicted for a crime they had committed….Never.
But of course, BECAUSE I raised them that way, they have grown up to be strong, responsible young adults, never having been in trouble, and are all attending top schools (in addition to being wonderful, caring human beings)…..
Hunter Biden, on the other hand, was never taught personal responsibility (made far worse over the years by daddy—who was always there to bail him out)….Whether it was getting him out of his military commitment ( when Basic Training proved to be too much for Hunter), or paying off his drug debts, or making calls to the right judge to have 2 DWIs disappear, daddy was always there, front & center—spoiling, coddling, cheating “on behalf” of Hunter……The result of such parenting is there for the world to see : A grotesque Man-Child, as irresponsible in his personal as in his public life—always walking in his daddy’s shadow, while never letting him out of his sight….

@SewardWriter ….You have my sympathy; autoimmune diseases can be a bear to manage ( on the bright side, however, it likely signifies that you come from a race of survivors: if you’re of European descent, autoimmunity in descendants was likely the price your ancestors paid for surviving the Black Death )….
There has been much research done in this area lately—and the evidence linking many present-day cases of autoimmune disease to a direct ancestor’s exposure to, and survival of, the Bubonic Plague is compelling…..Survival rates of those contracting Plague in the 14th C was less than 2% ( with Pneumonic Plague, it was 0% ) — those rare, 2% who survived could only have done so via an extreme, hyper-immune response by their bodies, the thinking goes….Researchers managed to isolate the DNA from a British noblewoman—who was said to have survived the Plague as a child—and was entombed in a stone sarcophagus ( thus, lessening the chance of the “wrong” bones being tested )….Results did, indeed, show exposure to Plague pathogens — and tracing her family tree to the present day, revealed generations of likely autoimmune disease ( those from the last 75 yrs were, of course, positively confirmed—those from earlier centuries wrote of symptoms pointing to Crohn’s Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis )….
Likewise ( if you’re able to get off of the immunosuppressants ), there is strong evidence that people with autoimmune diseases tend to develop cancer ( all cancers ) at statistically significantly lower levels than the general population ( it appears that a hyperimmune system doesn’t only target its host — but malignant cells, as well )….
Another long-winded aside ( autoimmunity is one of my chief interests of study )….I wish you good health :)

…..Sadly, I believe that the Jewish ppl are largely being hung by their own petard ( as the MAJORITY of Jews are on the far-Left — and WOULD, undoubtedly, be leading the “ pro-Palestine” marches, were it not Israel at the receiving end )….
The American Right have been Israel’s strongest supporters — though, Jews are making it harder & harder for us, as American Jews have been the Right’s greatest political enemies ( overwhelmingly represented in the “woke” Left )…..Jews were at the forefront of the “open door” immigration movement in the EU ( despite the Right’s many warnings )….
They, unfortunately, succeeded—and have damaged ALL of us (but, paradoxically, themselves, most of all—as attacks on Jews in Europe are being led by many of these same migrants )… Thinking that being “fighters for all down-trodden” is admirable, Jews too often “fight for” truly despicable people & principles ….I really hope that Israelis can get through to their trans-Atlantic brethren to dial back their craziness….IF Israel loses the U.S. Right—-you WILL be alone.

@james6901 Again—you haven’t a clue what “fascism” is. The Left have thrown the term about so recklessly ( hoping to score political points ), that they have largely succeeded in dumbing down the vocabulary of ordinary people….
FYI: Trump is a Conservative reactionary—not a “fascist.” ALL Fascists must have as their primary motivation & goal the use of military force— to both acquire more power & to subdue their own populace….
In his 4 years in power, Trump was almost allergic to his own military.…Joe Biden, on the other hand, never met a conflict or a weapons system he hasn’t embraced…Biden, in fact, with his military adventurism, his draconian “mandates,” and his willingness to use the power of the State to attack his political enemies, comes far, FAR closer to the definition of a “fascist”….

The problem is that the British public lost its self-respect about 40 yrs ago — and with the Left leading the way, has allowed History’s Losers to “define” them : “Racists! Xenophobes!” shout the Africans, Arabs, & various far-Eastern dead-ends of humanity….
Instead of (rightfully) fighting back & defending their place as THE crowned champions of human progress, they instead blush, stammer, bow their heads, while begging to be “Hit” again….
Rather than point out the impossibility of ANY culture to get it 100% “right” all the time ( while taking great pride in the 92% they DID not only “get right,” but pull the rest of the laggards up behind them ), they allow themselves to be “berated” by Life’s Losers — with batting averages in the single digits….The Left MUST be silenced : mocked, humiliated and not allowed NEAR power for at least a couple of decades….Only hope is to “Bud Light” the lot of them

@hockheekwek8431 ….You don’t REALLY want to GO THERE, surely? With hundreds of gas explosions occurring throughout China—due to crappy infrastructure, incompetence & corruption? Or, the fact that all over China—even Beijing—buildings are sinking into the ground & people’s cars & pedestrians just “disappear” into sink holes every day because you Drained all of the GROUND WATER??
With China’s Tofu Dregs construction & total disregard for basic safety standards, Chinese infrastructure is a death trap…..The Maui fire WAS a horrible tragedy—where safety mechanisms had either been absent, were malfunctioning, or were allowed to deteriorate in an unforgivable manner (But, the difference between the US & China is that such occurrences ARE very unusual in the US—And, more IMPORTANTLY, a thorough, PUBLIC investigation is taking place, responsible individuals WILL be held accountable, AND the Maui fire failings will be studied by every fire department & safety agency in the country, to prevent such a thing, ever happening again)….Can you say the SAME in China (where first, the event is downplayed, secondly, news of it & fatalities are hidden from the public—and where “accountable” people are rarely punished (especially if they have POWER)….That is why, in China, such events happen over & over & over….

@movingshapes I would happily compare IQ scores with you, universities attended, etc , but judging from your spelling, your “logic” and your lack of manners…it would be a waste, so listen up : “WHAT” Government are you referring to? “Slavery” was NEVER legalized at the Federal level; it was, at best, tolerated—as long as it remained “in the Southern States.” Are you talking about suing the ex-Confederacy, a particular State, or what?
(And, while we’re at it, enact “reparations” for AAs, I can guarantee there will be thousands of lawsuits demanding “reparations” for Union soldiers—who were killed fighting against the institution that caused the South to succeed)….Try using your words like a rational MAN—and not an emotional teenager…

@slamdunktiger WTH are you talking about? The unarmed populace of nearly every Western nation (and the majority of non-Western ones) rebelled against rulers & regimes (and their well-armed armies & militias) that were FAR less draconian than the CCP is, and always has been. In this, the Chinese are major OUTLIERS….
The fact that, generation after generation, they meekly lie down to be kicked—while their entire family is starved, wanted children are forcibly aborted, they are poisoned by the State, cheated & robbed, with “0” rights—and not even a single, national demonstration of civil disobedience, says more about the Chinese national character than anything else could….(And the fact that you apparently view the preference for dying “on your feet” as just “tough talk”—and not the natural response of ppl who possess dignity—says a lot about you, as well)….

As a journalist (at an American news network) with a sister studying in India, I have diligently been watching this program every day (since Palki S. joined), as I wanted to see if what my sister said was true (that Indian “news” consists of “pro-Government propaganda” and the “bashing of perceived enemies”)…I couldn’t believe that any Democratic country’s news stations would be afraid to criticize the Government in power (or worse : would be active “cheerleaders” for that government—rather than doing the job of a journalist, and holding power to account)….
After listening to Palki S speak for a full HOUR every day (while taking notes), I discovered the truth to be far worse : A full 75% of her editorials — every day — consist of “Negative news” of India’s perceived “enemies.” Two countries are predominantly featured (CHINA and PAKISTAN), with “The West” (particularly the UK & the US) finishing third….ANY negative news coming out of those countries (high unemployment, shootings, changes of Government, embarrassing personal mistakes of leaders, suppression of human rights) are always her “top stories”—and the majority of her content…(This isn’t to suggest that such stories shouldn’t be covered, but one of a journalist’s most important jobs is to identify news which is MOST critical to her audience—then, if there is time, to cover stories happening abroad)….When Ms. S CONSISTENTLY passes on “negative” news coming out of INDIA (such as rising inflation—and the Government’s inability to control it…or stories of local ethnic tension —and charges that the Government is FUELING it), and instead reports on Xi Xinping’s latest misstep, one can only point to bias, ineptitude, or active propaganda as the culprit…
One could be forgiven, in watching her program, of wondering what country Ms. S is reporting from…What about India? What about the country whose Government she is REQUIRED, as a journalist, to “hold to account?” What do Indian viewers LEARN every evening about laws their Government is passing which may make their lives more difficult? What do they learn about their Government’s corruption scandals, or their Government’s mishandling of ethnic tensions ? You got it : Zip. Nadda. Zilch.
Instead, night after night, one only hears Palki LAUD the Modi Government : Their “great & masterful” diplomacy….defending their most egregious mistakes (ALWAYS prefacing her comments with, “But one can understand why X did X “)…. In Palki’s World, INDIA can do no wrong : Every action is “world-changing” (the moon landing)….Every misstep (Modi’s incredibly botched Ladakh talks with China) are instead, transfigured into “smart diplomacy”….And clinging to a butcher’s coat tails (Putin), while being the only “democracy” not to condemn the armed invasion of ANOTHER democracy ? (Why, that is “Being NON-ALIGNED”….)
If THIS is an example of the type of “news” Indians are being fed daily (and my sister assures me that it is)….I pity the Indian public, for they are being both MISINFORMED and PROPAGANDIZED….And I have only CONTEMPT for a supposed “journalist” who has so few ethics that she would either allow herself to be bought off—or worse, is a True Believer, lacking the necessary skepticism & objectivity to even enter the profession in the first place….
Ms. Palki S. has a very big chip on her shoulder against the West (it doesn’t take a psychiatrist to easily spot it)….Perhaps a Western girl once stole her boyfriend—or perhaps, it goes much deeper….Either way, individuals with such deep-seated insecurities are a very bad choice to represent the public….They tend to infect others with their prejudices….
While there is little doubt that Ms. Palki S is a very smooth & polished presenter, she is NOT a journalist. Nor is she a professional….She is, however, very dangerous—spreading both ignorance & prejudice to her audience, while simultaneously reinforcing their own biases….India has never needed honest journalism more. Yours is nothing more than angry propaganda—masquerading as journalism (and you should be ashamed)…

And just who, pray, is the “we” you refer to? ( While you def have the talking points down — “democracy on the line,” “bowing down” to Trump, etc. — you seemingly have still not come to grips with the fact that the majority of Americans simply do not agree with you )….
….While Leftist Governments continue to fall or be voted out all over the world, their followers can’t flee fast enough from the hell holes they helped create: CA….NYC….Chicago ( Of course they run to well-run RED States )….
….And yet, with all of the CHAOS & carnage your Party has inflicted upon this country, you STILL moan about “Trump??” You have far more than “Trump” to worry about. The Little People have seen more than enough of the piss-poor governance, insane ideology & Leftist Authoritarianism that come with a “D” after the name….You’ll be lucky, indeed, if a Dem wins the WH again within the next decade….😂

@helenfrew2319 ….You are so very wrong……IF the pilot had acquiesced, and allowed the family to fly, he would have been exposing his employer to 100% liability for any nut-related allergic reactions the kid might have—including those due to one or two passengers “sneaking” a few nuts…. (And, through experience, I would say that those would be the type of parents to “sue” the airline—no matter what steps were taken)….
As both a flight attendant AND the Aunt of a boy with life-threatening nut allergies, I have seen this scenario from both sides……The parents behaved in both a medically foolish AND an entitled manner….As ANY experienced traveling parent of a kid with severe medical issues knows: You must be able to completely CONTROL your environment for it to be safe (even consuming a 100% peanut-free dish in a restaurant whose other dishes may contain peanuts will often send the sufferer into anaphylaxis)……There was simply NO WAY that such an environment could be properly controlled—and the parents (instead of running to the Press to whine) should have KNOWN it.
“What” should they have done? What thousands of other parents in similar circumstances do : Rather than expecting others to “secure” their son’s environment, they must get into the habit of doing it themselves….There are multiple options : Driving, taking a private train compartment, taking a private compartment on a ship, or by signing up for one of the burgeoning scheduled flights for ppl with medical needs (which cater to allergy sufferers, diabetics, etc)….
You are, I fear, in danger of falling into the Leftist Lollyland of, “The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many”

@avenuex3731 ….I would say the most trustworthy (Western) partners would be the Scandinavians (Norway, Sweden, Denmark)….They seem to have “egalitarianism “ baked into their DNA (interestingly, none of them were ever colonizers, either). They are also very wealthy countries, so would have the financial means….Rather than having Western countries approach African countries with “partnerships,” it might not be a bad idea if African leaders were the ones doing the “choosing” (say, approaching the Swedish Government with a partnership offer)?
….While Scandinavians might be considered boring, they also have a reputation for honesty—and excessive wealth is looked down upon in their societies….I’m sure there are other governments that would also be fair—and people of faith….But, whether it’s Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, or Ghana that wants to exploit its wealth, I hope African leaders remember to always keep the “trump card” in their peoples’ hands—and never allow outsiders to hold it….

….Millions of young, predominately male, university grads….Each one, the product of parents (and often grandparents) who scrimped, saved & worked ungodly hours, in order to provide “their” student with the opportunity to attend the best university — and, in turn, be guaranteed a steady, well-remunerated job…..(At least, that WAS the unwritten “guarantee” the Chinese had with The System : “The entire family sacrifices for eventual reward”) ”….
….But now, after fulfilling “their end” of a long bargain, the Chinese are increasingly seeing (in so many areas) The “State” not upholding their own end….Whether it’s reducing the promised pensions of seniors ; handing out increasing numbers of arbitrary “fines” to citizens, in order to pad empty coffers ; real estate co.s that do not complete the construction of homes that owners already have mortgages on ; or banks (many, government-owned) that are freezing depositors’ assets—or putting low “withdrawal limits” in place ….the Chinese feel that the “Contract” they once had, has broken down….
….The Million Dollar Question now is : Will 75 years of CCP indoctrination, or the constant blaming of “world events” to explain China’s economic predicament (along with a Confucius culture, that teaches one to “accept one’s place” & to “honour one’s leaders”) be “enough” to override the very natural indignation & fury that Chinese feel? …..Fasten your seatbelts…

Uh….because you folks show, time after time, that you completely lack common sense ( cash-free bail, for example, SOUNDS “fair” — but WHY could only Republicans and Centrists follow that rabbit hole to its conclusion, clearly seeing its horrific results )? …. I could go on and on, btw….
“Castles in the air” thinking vs. logical, clear-eyed realism kind of sums up the difference ( a difference, btw, that EVERYONE can see playing out in Dem-run cities & States, daily — and which has driven liberals from their Blue States to well-run Red ones, like FL & TX )….
