@robmerrell1745 Why does everyone always compare anorexia to BIID and gender dysphoria? Do y'all realize why that doesn't make sense? People with gender dysphoria believe they aren't the same gender they were assigned at birth. They seek help to make their body align with their gender. This resolves their distress in over 98 percent of patients with GD. People with BIID believe they have a limb the shouldn't. They seek help to align their body with their mental map. This resolves the distress in nearly 100 percent of patients with BIID. People with anorexia believe they are fat. They don't seek to make their body align with their mental image, because that would mean making them fatter .... which, coincidentally, is what we do. We try to get them to a healthy weight and repair their relationship with food. Because that's what resolves the distress in most patients (I don't have the figures to hand). Do you understand why it makes no sense to compare BIID and GD to anorexia?

Yup, nothing wrong with BIID or trans people. Thanks for your allyship!

What's sěxual gratification got to do with BIID or trans people? 🤔
1
@MrTaytersDeep There's no sěxual gratification involved in either. What's the time stamp where Simon said there was? I must have missed that. Also, no one "cuts off penises."
1
@MrTaytersDeep Ah, I see now. There was a theory that BIID was a fętish, much like the much debunked theory of autogynephilia with trans women. The theory that BIID was sėxually motivated was propped up by John Money, and that should tell you all you need to know about it. Do you really think a văgina is just the absence of a pėnis? No, they don't cut it off. They use it to form the vågina. The two sets of organs are analogous, and so they use them in that way.
1
@MrTaytersDeep No, surgery is ethical for both. It's the only thing that resolves the distress for both BIID and gender dysphoria. And 98+ percent of people do not regret it and are perfectly happy and content after surgery.
1
@MrTaytersDeep It's not so much a double standard as much as there's just a lack of knowledge and lack of understanding for BIID because it's much rarer. Estimates range between only 200 to 400 documented cases of BIID in the entirety of modern medical history. A doctor could go their career and never see a single patient with BIID. Whereas about one percent of the population is trans, so there is a bigger pool of people to push knowledge of the condition forward. There are literally tens of millions of trans people worldwide.
1
@MrTaytersDeep Well, they actually did do brain studies on trans people; lots of them. What we've found is that trans women have brain structures more similar to cis women than to cis men, and furthermore that their brains are even more similar to those of trans men than to either cis women or cis men. So there's definitely something going on in trans brains. So far, no outrage.

We've done plenty of brain scans over the decades. Nothing wrong with trans people's brains. 🤷

@robmerrell1745 No, body dysmorphic disorder is yet another condition. BDD is where a person sees a distorted view of their body, eg, they think their nose is massive when really it's very normal. They cannot see a true image of themselves in the mirror. It's closely related to eating disorders like anorexia, but not the same. Trans people see themselves accurately, and the accurate image is what causes them distress. Same with BIID. These conditions are unrelated entirely to BDD. Look in the DSM-V and you'll see these are all separate conditions. Neither trans people nor people with BIID are delusional. Just because you don't understand their condition doesn't mean it's a delusion.

@captainspaulding5963 Is that what you think "assigned" means?
1
Different disorders. But in both cases, the only thing that alleviates the distress is surgery. Medication and therapy do not.
1
Medication doesn't work. They've tried.
1
The difference is, nearly 100 percent of people who survive a suicide attempt regret it and are glad to have survived. Whereas nearly 100 percent of BIID sufferers who have had surgical intervention do not regret it and are perfectly happy even decades later. The treatment is surgery, whether you like it or not. We've tried everything else.
