  3.  @TraitorsGambit  Still doesn't explain why an apparent "Superpower' made such crap cars. The volume is irrelevant. It could be argued that eye wateringly expensive fighter jets are also an incredibly inefficient use of resources that spend 99.9% of their time parked but at least they put some level of effort into those. As for a transport network that wasn't great either.

  6.  @LolTollhurst  Yes the cars were simple and needed to be tough because the Soviets were also incapable of making a half decent road but that still doesn't explain why their little cheap cars were so sh!t. India made similar cars for similar conditions and economics but they were not complete garbage. Those 'limousines' were also garbage that's why the KGB had Tatras. Point being that cheap need not be absolute crap, cheap just makes it basic. The west made lots of cheap no frills cars and they were immeasurably better. The Soviets were just a bunch of drunks that didn't give a crap is what it really boils down to.
