Australians just LOVE buying Made In China and the Chinese just LOVE buying Australian real estate with all that money in return. The Chinese police love Au so much they've even opened stations to help spread the love and build dreams.

  14. Ā @remu6841Ā  I was thinking more 60's and 70's but yes your right everyone jumped on the branding / rebadging bandwagon. With the VW Group, as one of many examples, it can be argued while they share a platform the cars themselves can be quite different between brands and made in different countries while the mid 1900's Ford's and GM's were the exact same actual car but if it came with power windows, power steering and aircon standard that base Mercury became a Lincoln (or something baffling like that). My point being most of those in house 'brands' were just trim levels. Strangely the big 3 never really did that here in Au, Ford just had different trim badging like L, GL, GLX, GT etc but the were all branded as Ford Falcons.

  39. In it's defence American cars are made as disposable consumer goods and they make no bones about it. It feels cheap and nasty because that is all that is required. Americans generally take quantity over quality. It is not designed nor expected to reach old age. Buy, drive, bin, repeat.

"So who really won the war?" - James May. Then in 1985 Au had a complete incompetent underhanded corrupt moron in Senator John Button creating the whole rebadging farce creating the beginning of the end of car manufacture in Au. Now 'Stralians have some weird love for communist chinese cars. It's a very weird country.
