Back in 2007, I was stopped by an officer while walking down the street in the Tennessee town where I had lived for four years! The officer, who arrived in the squad car with flashing lights, made me show my ID because someone called the police saying a “suspicious” person was walking down the street. I gladly showed my license with compliance, which was nearly a miracle because I hardly ever carried my drivers license when taking an afternoon walk. The officer let me go and even apologized. But I was trembling after that. My landlords learned of the incident and I think they reported the situation. I was never called in as a suspicious person after that scary situation. But I let the officer ask what he had to ask and I showed him what he had to see. Thank God it did not progress to handcuffs and sitting in a police car.
