wildcatblue1109 1. School wifi/internet is often not good, the connection being poor and blocking sites that are needed for course work. Often teachers gave us permission to use our phones (supervised) for hotspots and accessing websites for projects.
2. Communication. My cousin nearly died in a shooting, and she managed to text out a "I love you." It's also necessary to let kids know you're running late, or to carpool/take the bus home. Sports events and after school activities often get changed around during the school day, and without a phone for contact it's difficult getting the right information. Contacting emergency services and general safety information is much faster aswell, even 30 seconds fumbling for a landline across the classroom, or 5 minutes of yelling at a supervisor to call the cops can make or break someone's life.
4. Time/organization. Helps kids keep an accurate judgement of time, as often school clocks are 5-10 minutes behind schedule or completely broken.
People like you who refuse to accept that society changes, and therefore society's needs and expectations change are the bane of innovation and advancement. Cell phones with the youth go back several decades, so I don't know what you're taking about there---and applying your logic to different things, humans have spent a majority of history without electricity so why don't we cut that out?
