Most housing these days in Australia use stud framing on a solid concrete foundation, mostly single story with brick exterior walls with gyprock(dry wall) interior walls, with either concrete roof tiles or coragated iron. This is called brick veneer, another method called double brick was popular from the 1800's until after WW2, this fell out of favour due to cost. Using a brick outer wall and a brick inner wall that was plastered to a smooth finish, this method was mainly favoured by people coming from Europe, not used much these days due to expense. The time it takes to put up a single double brick house you could build 4 or 5 brick veneer houses. Houses these days come with a written 25 year structural guarantee, a life span of a 100 years is not uncommon if well maintained.
