Why would they not want to fight the Germans who conquered their country. Jewish fellow citizens well over 100,000 were sent to death camps. And hundreds or thousands of their citizens in the underground were sent to Gestapo prisons, tortured and sent to concentration camps. I think they loved fascism and hated the democracy in the Netherlands which was more important to them. Who knows how long the Netherlands would have been under the German boot if they won. It is possible Germany might eventually have annexed the Netherlands, forbidden the Dutch language and Germanized the country. In addition the Germans starved the Dutch citizens during the winter of1944-45

@mentallibral I disagree on several points. That half the population of the Netherlands supported the Nazis to me is unbelievable. I would like to know where you found that information. That the Germans invaded the Netherlands and took over the government and placed them under a Reich Commissar is undeniable. If that is not conquest I don't' know what is. It was stated in books the the food supply was interrupted deliberately as a punishment See Ben Shepherd Hitler's Soldiers p 489-90. As to your final point I believe the soldiers mentioned loved fascism and supported an aryan idea of superiority and hated democracy. That they hated Bolshevism was also true. Further I think the majority of the country considered them traitors to the Netherlands. I suggest you put your contentions to History Hustle for his comments.

@piecia66 Unfortunately you could say the same things about the butchers and murderers who massacred civilians throughout the USSR, Greece and Yugoslavia. Does not personal responsibility enter in to it? Are they ok because of the war. Why did the other people not commit atrocities? It is their victims that deserve compassion.

So you think it was ok for the Dutch volunteers to join the country and politics who advocated genocide of the Slavs and killed millions as well as killing millions of Jews. It is only the Soviets that are bad in your mind. These are men who did not join in to free their own country. They were great patriots who sided with their conquerors.
