  1. Yes since he was mostly responsible for the strategy that helped to defeat France and was successful in conquering Sevastopol. He was considered the most able general for operations.

  2. Jeschonnek first said the airlift would work but quickly changed his mind. Goring later assured Hitler it would work. Von Richtofen and Fiebig, the two Luftwaffe leaders at Stalingrad told the OKH that it would not work from the very day it was first considered.

  3. Some realized it was a disaster from the beginning of the encirclement. They knew the 6th army was cut off from any land supplies and the Soviets had huge numbers of troops available. They hoped to get the 6th Army out but it would be a disaster regardless. They just did not know it would be a total disaster. After the relief failed on December 24th they knew it would be a total disaster.

  4.  @paulbabcock2428  I don't use the word genius. I think he was the best operational general in the German army. There were others who were very good such as Model and Henrici but they were mostly defensive specialists and had few if any offensive victories.

  5. No The supplies still needed to be sent from Germany and other areas like Warsaw and transported to the airfields so they could be flown into Stalingrad.

  7. They used the planes to evacuate the wounded every trip. They could not get that many men on each trip. The number of flights in was no ware near 6000 Lasndings. Very few flew twice a day and the weather prevented any flights on some days.

  8. Stalingrad was part of Hitler's plan to dominate the world. His ideas on race are contrary to evolution and common sense. We don't have wars that wipe out all people except the most able. Many of the most able and certainly some of the most intelligent do not get wiped out by wars. This kind of thinking is really the most crude way of thinking about evolution and it does not apply to modern man who is able to cure diseases and invent tools and other aids to help him survive. This is social darwinism an outdated idea that was strong in the 19th century and has has been rejected for many years. However it was still a strong component of Hitler's racial nonsense.

  10. First the war in the Ukraine is not over and may last for months or years longer. Second it takes time to separate propaganda from the facts and a lot of info available right now is colored by propaganda on both sides.

  13. German propaganda. All the German soldier needs is the will to fight with fanaticism. It does not matter that he is outnumbered and the enemy has a great advantage of tanks, aircraft and artillery.

  14. The Soviets did not lack fuel although they did from time to time run short since there were problems delivering fuel.. The Germans had much greater problems as both fuel was short and they also had problems delivering fuel.
