  3.  @RYLCatalystic  I disagree. Hitler made the decision to declare war on the US when he was not obligated to do so. The fact that he would back Japan at some time in the future does not mean he had to do this immediately. You have to take in consideration that Japan signed a non agression pact with the USSR in April 1941 and certainly did not back their ally Germany. The quick declaration of war against the US made any political problems that Roosevelt might have had for a war with Germany disappear.

  5. Japan went to war because the US cut off oil and Japan needed the oi, tin and rubber to keep their war in China going. The embargo began in 1941.
