  1. Ironic you say that since Ian McKellen played Nicholas in HBO's "Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny". The man himself was played by (who else?) Alan Rickman.

  2. All that "poisoned cake and wine" stuff is utter nonsense. Yuzupov made up that story to make himself look good, and changed it whenever he needed cash. In reality, Rasputin was brought into the dining room, shot, and then shot again when he started groaning as the conspirators were dragging his body to a car. This second shot--to the head--was fatal. They MIGHT have kicked his corpse for good measure, but aside from that, Rasputin's death was perfectly mundane.
