One criticism starts with asking a simple question: "What if Kira had died of an illness?" The critic goes on to say that, had this happened, the 47 would've remembered as cowards who dishonored their master by not trying to seek vengeance right away. While he acknowledged that such an act would've ended in total failure, he argued that it still would've been in line with how samurai are supposed to behave. Me? I certainly think it would've been awkward if the old man had died of natural causes before they could kill him.
