@zxbzxbzxb1 It was a simple recognition of reality. You couldn't hit the arms factories, but if you burnt down the cities you might, with luck, kill a lot of workers.

@kentamitchell Way too high for The Gulag. Holodomor is a dubious construct of Ukrainian nationalism. The famine was by no means confined to Ukraine. In fact losses may have been higher in Kazakhstan as a %age of population.

I think about 1/7 of Bomber Command crew losses were due to accidents rather than enemy action. Night flying is dangerous even if no-one is trying to shoot you down.
