  2. The reason the Australian population is low is because 90% of the Australian land mass in uninhabitable. People look at Australia on a map and say "Hey, it's pretty big" without realizing this one simple fact.  Having a huge population is all well and good but you need the resources to support them and with only 10% of the landmass habitable we have to be very careful about how those resources are used.

  41. The governmental system in place in the US is referred to as a Constitutional Republic but it's leaders are elected using a democratic system. That is, a system in which their is universal sufferage, the elected representatives are held accountable to the people at regular intervals, and in the case of the US there is constitutional mechanism in place that ensures a separation between church and state. When the title refers to 'restoring democracy' it actually means to suggest reversing the current trend in the US of trying to exclude people from the democratic process by making it deliberately difficult for them to vote. They are trying to fix a part, not change the definition of the whole.
