@bindingcurve if ASE tests meant anything, why can i turn wrenches without them?
70
@kilroywashere9678 certs are a massive scam
60
@JecuskyGarrett if you arent concerned with a cars value, YOU are part of the problem
30
@bindingcurve it doesnt make me " more hirable" it just puts me in the same queue as the other thousands of people who took them. regardless of skill level or competency. an ASE doesnt tell an employer if you are good at your job, it just fills out a checkbox.
23
@bindingcurve so what you are telling me, it means nothing, is arbitrary, and only exists to create licensing boards to make never ending profits, while not actually providing anything useful to the market? is that what you are saying here? why would i work for a place who doesnt actually care what i can do or what i know and only runs their business on what other people tell them they need? Doesnt sound like a great business to work at
5
@hellogoato " It got to the point where they even gave me a substantial raise because they were like "holy shit please don't leave"" Feels a bit too little too late IMO
4
@JecuskyGarrett WTF are you talking about dude? If people stopped buying new and trading back in to buy another new car, this BS would cease. If no one buys the cars, they cant mark them up and feed us garbage
4
@windowsvistasuxalot actually working on and fixing things thats worth way more than any garbage certs you could get
3
@christianhepler7798 lmfao, a 90s corolla is easy to fix with common hand tools, parts and information are readily available, and 4clnders are great on gas. Safety hasnt improved that much since the 90s If safety is your concern, go with old volvos instead
2
@christianhepler7798 "you'd see far more old ones on the road, " I see them all the time. lets not pretend that our throw away society hasnt crushed hundreds of thousands of usable vehicles, because they were " uneconomical to repair" which the phrase itself blows my mind
2
@christianhepler7798 late 90s early 2000's were peak automotive tech. everything after just gets worse and worse to repair and maintain...
2
@JecuskyGarrett you said if you care about its value dont buy it... and i explained how that is dumb...
2
@JecuskyGarrett are you seriously asking me this question? ". Your first reply stated that if you're not concerned about the car's value, suddenly that makes you a problem. You then go on to state that if no one buys new cars, there wouldn't be any markups and this whole situation would be over with. How does that explain that not worrying about a car's value is dumb?" Are you really asking me this?
2
"le capitalism" lmfao
2
"Who wants to buy a MacBook for $3400 because Best Buy is the only legal seller?" the kinds of people who pay 999 for a monitor stand, and 2000 for a phone they wait in line for at the store on release date, while playing on there current year =1 model of the same device
1
never ending government regulation is unfettered capitalisms lol ok pal
1
>2005 wrx >blown engine >mismatched color panels >ugly wheels >dropped ride height 5500 i know what i got
1
@dpajc056 what is google?
1
@dpajc056 What is meant by CAFE standards? NHTSA's Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards regulate how far our vehicles must travel on a gallon of fuel. NHTSA sets CAFE standards for passenger cars and for light trucks (collectively, light-duty vehicles), and separately sets fuel consumption standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and engines
1
@dpajc056 TLDR government says how cars are to be built to extremely BS measurements this is why everything's a fukhuge crossover now, because they are " light trucks"
1
@joshiahphillips9219 you dont need to go to a dealer and buy a new car though
1
@christianhepler7798 TC, SC and ABS have been mostly standard for over 20 years my dude, same with airbags... "As for old Volvos, reliability and parts availability make them a risky daily driver." Sure bud, sure
1
@christianhepler7798 Honda has had 35+ mpgs since the early 90s, why do i need heated and cooled seats? more parts, more potential problems. why do i want android sht in my car? cars peaked in the 2000's
1
@christianhepler7798 good luck fixing your heated seats in 10 years, or expecting your android auto to work, and im sure your mileage will plummet from carbon buildup because everything is now direct injection high compression turbo engines because muh fuel economy
1
>buying a telsa no thanks
1
if the government didnt f everything else up we wouldnt be here... yet here is another wonderful genius asking for more government intervention government causes problem problem gets worse people demand government" fix" the problem causes other problems only to be solved by government great
1
its literally nothing
1
uhh keeping a 30 year old shtbox on the road is doing more for the environment than buying a new car...
1
33 inch wheels why?
1
@ldstirling lol didnt see "my truck" there in his comment till you said it... makes a little more sense
1
none of this is a free market....
1
cooler than crossovers and SUVs......
1
@ninats a tshirt is like 2-6 dollars buying bulk, "How much does it cost to bulk print shirts?" If you're buying 50 or more, you'll pay between $5-10 per shirt – and if you order in bulk (100+), it's closer to $5 each. so it cost them roughly 7- 15 dollars a shirt to sell them at 30 bucks, most retail stores operate on tiny profit margins, these tshirts are like 50+% or more profit
1
@ninats imagine paying for software XD
1
@ninats i only buy what i try out beforehand. and i never pay full price
1
@ninats look man, if you have the disposable income to spend 30 dollars for a 5 dollar tshirt with some decals on it, good for you
1
@ninats i guess? Its still massively marked up for a cheap shirt..... Maybe not exactly price gouging.
1
@JecuskyGarrett "Non of your previous statements relate to the topic." Ok, i guess you just cant read then
1
@JecuskyGarrett nah bud, its clear you arent following along with whats written....
1
@JecuskyGarrett bro you cant even follow a conversation via text... Re Read the thread and youll see what i said. otherwise move along
1
@JecuskyGarrett what discussion my dude? you stated "If you're concerned about a car's value, don't buy it." And i replied, that not caring what the price is, is why the prices are still high. People are still buying them... You are sitting here arguing it has nothing to do with the topic at hand... Are you sure you can read what i wrote? is this real? are you punking me?
1
@JecuskyGarrett it literally doesn't matter before or after ownership dude... clearly you have reading comprehension skills
1
@JecuskyGarrett it kinda does though your cars value goes up, so does your taxes so does insurance cars to replace yours in an accident are also going uo pretending you can ignore the value of a vehicle is literally the problem i spoke of at the beginning of this conversation.... good lord
1
@JecuskyGarrett taxes are based on the value of the car. Insurance is based on the value of the car. ... "Kid" 10 to 1 im twice your age kid
1
@JecuskyGarrett and once more. If people cared about the value they wouldnt be buying these markups... But once again. Whooosh
1
@JecuskyGarrett Ok bud
1
@JecuskyGarrett Yeah, im done explaining things to people who have such a hard time reading
1
@JecuskyGarrett "kid" LOL ok tough guy how old are ya
1
@JecuskyGarrett you call me " kid" then act like you dont know how vehicle taxes work
1
@JecuskyGarrett well i can only assume you dont know what you are talking about... Are you even old enough to drive?
1
@JecuskyGarrett "discussion about car values" "Talking about how tax valuation is based on car values isnt the topic" Lol really? Like, really???
1
@JecuskyGarrett let me explain it to you simply. If your cars value goes up. So does taxes. I fail to see how this deviates from the conversation originating about being concerned with the value of your car... Could you explain it to me? Or nah?
1
@JecuskyGarrett No you just pay your excise tax, with its value based on the value of said car... are you really having a hard time with this? $25 per $1,000 of your vehicle's value per my state
1
@JecuskyGarrett if my cars value goes up 6k in a year, i now pay an additional 150 in tax on top of what i paid last year so yes, the value of a car matters when you are taxed on said value
1
@JecuskyGarrett im glad you can humble yourself a little bit there my dude... But really... do you even drive?
1
@JecuskyGarrett so do you pay excise taxes on it? Is it in your name? There arent many states that dont
1
@JecuskyGarrett 😆 a leaf and driving mommy and daddys car? And you call me kid XD thanks needed to laugh
1
@JecuskyGarrett lol its ok little buddy. Try not to hurt yourself thinking about taxes
1
@JecuskyGarrett forgets that he was wrong and uses it as an insult Oof kid
1
@BTrain-is8ch didnt read the thread at all thanks for your input
1
@BTrain-is8ch yeah its clear you have a hard time...
1
