@BoopShooBee im saying the government forcing evs, which require different levels of pollution to create is not an ideal solution to ice vehicles polluting. Especially taking into account worldwide infrastructure, legacy vehicles, and entire industries and millions of jobs being wasted. A far more useful way forward would be synthetic fuels and manufacturing parts for older vehicles in order to reduce waste

@BoopShooBee lol being a " rare earth metal" doesnt make it rare is arguing semantics for semantics sake... his point is its cheaper and easier to mine new lithium rather than recycle it... this is why most new batteries use mined lithium

Government forcing everything to switch to an entirely different system is definitely not the way to reduce pollution. Especially considering the engineered to fail manner most vehicles and appliances are working under

@BoopShooBee didnt say lithium is a bottle neck, i said you calling it not rare, even though the name of the type of mineral it is is classified as a rare earth metal isnt a point to make. and reiterated lonewolfs point that its continuously mined for new batteries, negating the " no emissions" talking point with EVs " new battery tech" thats great and fantastic and all, but last time i checked, they still needed to be made by rare earth metals so its really not this miracle, its just another step in the long long line of innovations

And this being grey market ( not illegal, but questionably legal) would NOT be doomed because in addition to this grey market opportunity, a black market would then exist in state. Implying any of these ventures is doomed to fail was why i said what i said. not a strawman of what you said... "I’m saying that you’ll find fewer and fewer services for people who have ICE cars when the government steps in." Thus facilitating the existence of a black market for such goods and services, which was my point, as they would not be doomed ventures
