  1. Stayed there maybe 1 night ~10 years ago. A bit rough, but honestly the thing I most disliked was getting to the station. The bridge over all the tracks made it feel like I had to walk much farther than the distance seemed to indicate. I thought it was about 500m to the hotel by glancing at the map but de facto all things considered it was probably closer to 1km. Was still a far cry from the worst of Osaka, though of course a lot can change for the worse in 10 years, and it already wasn't great.

As it is New Years, it's likely a type of sukiyaki. すき焼き You can also look up shabu shabu.　しゃぶしゃぶ　and nabemono 鍋物 More generally it is hotpot but that will likely get you a bunch of other countries' recipes. Oh, you can also look up oden おでん or 御田, but that is likely much more complicated without access to the right stuff.

  4. Well, you can film but you aren't supposed to upload unless you had their permission to film in the first place. But even Japanese youtubers do it. It's potentially illegal so all the bigger companies that risk lawsuits mosaic... everything. Even my friends who aren't likely to actually get sued or anything often mosaic kids. Most people don't seem to mind, but it's good manners to be careful when filming faces. Obviously you asked so it's okay, but people filming should know it CAAAN be a sore issue, so best ask permission.

  5. It often makes the rounds in Western videos of things you're supposed to do a certain way in Japan. In reality, it's about a 3 to 1 preference. A survey listed it as 776 to 224. Topping side is a strong majority, but it's not so overwhelming that anyone should care if you do otherwise.
