It's easy to justify the invasion. Treatment of conquered people was utterly terrible though.

@jsluo4689 The invaded areas aren't what they are today. They weren't sovereign nations. It was places called stuff like French Indochina. They were Western colonies and puppet states. Again, easy to justify an invasion. But what that invasion actually ended up looking like can not be justified.

@jsluo4689 China SHOULD BE ABLE TO REPEL JAPAN. The fact it couldn't shows that China was in bad condition at the time. China was having a Civil War when Japan invaded. KMT had finally started pushing back against Qing era unequal treaties but I think most were still in effect when Japan invaded. Maybe puppet is strong, but still kowtowing to Western powers. I mean, this whole thing in HK is a reminder of that afterall- since UK basically mugged China for HK and Kowloon for the offense of daring to protest that the UK was profiting off of making Chinese people into opium addicts. That kind of ^$@# is what made Japan realize it had to do everything it could to repel Western influence.

It's definitely a manta ray. I never heard about the projectile-vomiting part before, probably cuz the Kuril Islands are often not included.

It was obviously both. The Russian angle is hardly ever mentioned though. Which is silly, because the Russian angle partially justifies the bombings and would have certainly been in consideration when deciding whether or not to use the weapons as opposed to a land invasion.
