Kira Inuzaki Watchmojo has too fast of a pace to be able to actually have quality. I don't expect much out of them. It's based on what other people say as well, not just their own opinions. It's why newscasters often sound like idiots- and is one of many reasons politicians do. You do the best you can, but when you're forced to be a 5 minute expert, it's obvious. However, when the finebros said one group but had a picture of another...

herro preasers I think it was downgraded a bit because, although famous, it isn't very representative of a type of K-pop music, nor has it really spawned successful copycats. It's pretty much one and done; an outlier, and that hurts its ability to really be "iconic".

Wesley Helgeson She's K-pop. But the Japanese market is well... about 15-20 times more lucrative than the Korean market, so artists often try to make the jump (Japanese market is about as big as the US's... it's just insular so people outside of Japan don't get much of it). Not unlike all the UK acts trying to sell in America, though of course the language barrier makes the jump into Japan a little harder. And it was probably even harder those days due to legal restrictions from WW2 period finally starting to break down-. she was probably one of the first major artists to successfully make the jump. Her first few Korean albums sold around 100-400K. Strong, but her Japanese albums sold 400K-1.25million... and... although I'm not sure of historical prices, most likely, commanded significantly higher prices (Japanese albums, these days, sell for about 30-40 USD each).

Pookie Gibson Don't listen to their pronunciations! But uhh... yes, SHINee is more or less pronounced like shiny.

UssagieeTheUnicorn Although the implementation may be a little off, DBSK is here. Unless you count honorable mention as being "missing".

John Hofmann Gangnam Style is an oddball case... so it could have ended up in first- or even off the list. It's like putting BABYMETAL on an iconic J-Pop list. Sure, Gangnam Style was a much much bigger viral hit and all, but it's still pretty much an outlier. People all around the world know about it. But people who like K-pop barely mention it. If it was a "random people all around the world list" then the list would be #1, Gunyum/Gundam Style, #2-10.... blank. So, this list is obviously more aimed for people actually into Kpop. And... so PSY could have made the list, or he could have been left out intentionally. In the end, number 5.

JOHN MARC Siscar BoA is K-pop. She was just one of the first to make the jump into the Japanese market (along with TVXQ), before everyone was doing it (and since the Japanese market is significantly more lucrative, anyone who successfully makes the jump tends to try hard to keep that revenue stream open).

WNHobley "Iconic" songs should be obvious. There's a certain quality aspect required- at least in comparison to contemporaries, but what primarily makes a song iconic is renown. Basically, in this case, the obvious choice is fair play- and what they should be going for anyway. If you're a K-pop fan, you should be able to write down 30 songs in advance and hit all top 10 in an "iconic" list.
