Consoles suck for about 2-3 years after release. Nintendo used to have ridiculously good 1st party games that typically came about before that since they could check out the hardware in advance, but they've mostly lost their edge there. Besides those, there are usually only a handful made within the first few years that are really considered as hallmark games of a system. Honestly, the early releases this gen are fairly strong and numerous (and mostly also released on PS3...), but I still don't understand early adopters in consoles. I mean, it's a vote for a certain system- a really expensive vote that could be near wasted if you choose wrong- but even now a lot of games are still being released on PS3. And these days if you actually wait the consoles don't just get smaller/lighter/cheaper with fewer bugs... you get extra storage and perks too. I don't think there's much reason to get one for another year or so.
