People can't even say "told you so" because all those whistleblowers and "conspiracy theorists" got banned by the stasi. Some conspiracy theories might be awful stupid but we as a society need to let people have their say. The Ministry of Truth shouldn't be gatekeeping goodthink.

Went to downtown LA for the first time in years yesterday. It could have been worse. Downtown isn't really the worst of the worst and there's some semi-nice stuff nearby that makes them think they can charge $25 for parking. Some stuff is beautiful- because it was made to be beautiful 100 years ago. But a girl walking by looking at her phone almost stepped in human 💩

We'd call basically every city in the US a hole of you know what so what's the big deal? This includes places like San Diego and San Francisco which SHOULD be beautiful but you have to watch where you're walking or you might step on something. It's kinda the point. I had a paramedic friend who volunteered after Maria. He said it was great for about 1-2 days until the local government ground progress to a crawl in order to play politics. Don't we want these places better than they are? As good as they could be? As good as they should be?

The problem is I don't know. I mean, we're living as if he did. But I don't really know. That's a problem. And I hope lots of places will work hard to protect the process. We had to use unprecedented measures last time, but maybe there weren't adequate protections for those measures. So is it so straightforward? Here's what I know. Democrats complained in 2016. Republicans complained in 2020. There's a problem. So fix it by 2024 so there's no doubt.

Crime rises due to weak police. On the other hand, Australia and Canada and others have pretty near turned into a police state. Maybe in the end we've been saved a bit in the USA on account of distrust of the police. It's a hard balancing act.

Of course it was 4 years ago. You know, when the roles were reversed and Trump won and Democrats called it "hijacked". So four years ago is actually the most relevant. Also, yes, we know fight doesn't usually mean a physical action. That's literally the point here. When they said it they were being figurative but they were accusing Trump of meaning it literally. That's why it ends with, to paraphrase, everyone uses this word, and it's not wrong to use it, just don't be a %$^$ing hypocrite about it.

You think the media wouldn't find SOMETHING? Or manufacture it? They latched onto this of all things. I mean, their only other story for the event was what? And sensible Americans wouldn't think any more of this than had Don Rickles said it. Now, we don't have to think he's anywhere near as good as Don Rickles or even like the genre of comedy to begin with. But it's still an attempt at comedy. They had all these various speakers come up. And the "court jester" if you will- a comedian. And the media is caught up with what the jester said.

Doesn't matter. This one is actually the dog whistle. He might briefly try to get it passed. It won't pass. He'll say he tried and do something else instead. Just an FYI- lots of countries around the world criminalize it including "good" countries like France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Taiwan and South Korea. The vast majority of people around the world lives in a place where you can't desecrate their flag legally- it's not just an axis of evil position or whatever, it's still the normal position. Allowing it is the abnormal position. It's better to not criminalize it- but it should matter. If you want to see the USA improved, find some other way to protest.

I'm not voting for Trump. I'm voting for Vance, Vivek, Elon, Tulsi and RFK, among others. Ron Paul too. Rand Paul isn't on board about the tariffs, but he's still basically on board. I don't love Trump but you made it very easy in 2024. You traded the best Democrats for Dick Cheney et al.

So basically, he doesn't seem to actually do anything. So his job is worthless. Fire.

NOYGDFB, unless he is the one mandating it.

As has been considered, it's not good to encourage candidates to choose a shitty running mate as a defense against getting removed. A sad day for women to have Kamala be the first, but at least there's still a chance that the first elected woman will be a person of character and not just color.

And it's very obvious Trump was using the latter definition.

This is the slippery slope. Abortion should essentially be the trolley problem. In a no win situation, who should be saved!? The only reason why I would say it's not equivalent is because you're only responsible for your actions- and a lot of people have put in a lot of effort to try to justify it for you. So while I think the blame is essentially equivalent (they are both lives, but the no win trolley problem can still favor a 16 year old over a 105 year old- ie, abortion should usually be the chosen option if mother's life is at heavy risk) therefore the political/medical machine that has pushed for abortion on demand soak up most of the blame. I would prosecute the dealers not the users, and I blame them 90%. Users are victims themselves, but in that they still victimize others in their victimhood, I still give them 10%. It's been slippery sloped down to being on demand. No one is on the current track. The track is just a bit bumpier and the ticket costs more. On the other track is a sack of cells... that may or may not be a baby. Why would you flip the switch to run over the track that may or may not be a baby when no one is on the current track?

@rensinclair4218 Slippery slope fallacy is a fallacy. Slippery slopes exist. Slippery slope fallacy is claiming something is a slippery slope when it might be inert- or a slope that isn't slippery. Or a slippery slope that bottoms out earlier than the fallacy would suggest. Slippery slopes exist! They definitely exist in politics because lobbyists exist. Their job is to push. If everyone comes to a fair agreement, the lobbyists would be out of the job. So fair isn't good enough for them- they will keep pushing something else until something else pushes back and a new frontline is established. In my above comment I'm not even talking about future potential slipping. I'm talking about events that HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED. How "safe, legal and rare" became what we're at now. That position WAS slippery because it barely held at all. Now the lobbyists push with "abortion on demand and without apology" or similar slogans. Republicans can't really be anti-abortion anymore, they have to just be states rights. We've slipped that far. Is it going to keep slipping? If left alone, possibly. But as the lobbyists push for late term and even post birth abortions, pushback increases. And the equilibrium seems to be somewhere around 2-4 months. But this is far down the slippery slope from safe, legal and rare.

How many Olympic medals are there in boxing? 3 for men, 3 for women? No. There are about 10 different weight classes for men. So you know, the 49 kg guys don't have to go up against the 91 kg guys. Heck, at the lower weight levels it's divided so often you aren't even supposed to fight guys more than 3-4 kg (7-10 lb) different than you.

Meanwhile Fauci is fondling his mask for this whole conversation. Uhh... I thought we weren't supposed to touch it?

I guess the shellacking wasn't bad enough in 2021 for them to turn course. No mercy in the midterms.

Go check your covid timeline again. Trump was slow (globally he was average), but he was still faster than Democrats (and Republicans). Democrats were angry when he restricted travel from China, but pretty near everyone had a hissy fit when he restricted travel to Europe. Europeans were pissed too. Sure, if we had a perfect border and shut everything down immediately we could have stopped it. But he was still getting pushback for the relatively minor things he implemented weeks, maybe even months later until people realized it was actually quite serious.
