  1. "Worldwide map of all tropical cyclone tracks" South Korea gets hit. Especially the southwest side, because typhoon in this area basically all track toward northeast. Kyuushuu takes most of the hits but some track a little farther north and hit the SW side of South Korea (ie, where this airport is located) instead. Storms that track even farther north seem to usually track over China before crossing into Yellow Sea, which probably protects Seoul from getting very many serious typhoon. Southwest side is taking hits from ones coming from the open ocean though.

  2. It's also worth noting that a huge typhoon hit South Korea in 2003. This airport was built between 1997 and 2007.
