I am so sorry for the civilians that get all their things flooded.

Tiptoeing around someone unpredictable. That was my sense of the influencer. The topman of Moscow reminded me of some weirdo that you may run into on the street in a big town.

Yes, they look in the mirror and call it a window.

Да. Я согласна в этом. А Украина существует. Украина - настоящая страна.

Or see through their lies and false judgements. Actually, a lot of people who know Russian were aware of the sinister problems early on.

She was right about that assessment. But he did not come to power during the Soviet Union. The revival of tsardom combined with the power of the past union is what he aims for.

Pretty innocent snippet. These are things that have been said during peaceful times with no animosity, just comparison. This not originally Dugin’s thoughts either. In no way justifying the violent attacks on Ukrainian civilians. This mindset is possible without ever going to war against anybody.

It is rather paranoid, attacking because they think others will attack.

Loss of identity. They only have identity in being a military nation. Not every russian is like that, but not having any sound identity can be vicious.

Yuliya Timoshenko, the opponent against Zelensky at the presidental election, speaks out in support of standing together against a common enemy. She is clear that she does not agree on home office policies.

It could be seen as a rhetorical question. Beyond the spoken words, there was this feeling that the POTUS plan would not work, since it got questioned. It looked so nice, now it was ruined. And then there was this element of reality show. I don’t think Zelensky was to blame for that escalation. Maybe he could have kept a stiff upper lip when it did escalate, taking notes to himself that he was dealing with an unrealiable partner with no true understanding, and that he should try to get away from any further agreements.

What really convinced me of Timothy Snyder's perspective, was Russian comments. - Ukraine doesn't exist, was the most obviously aggressive argument during the start of the invasion. They argue that Ukraine means "borderland". A kasakh linguist demonstrated that "Ukraine" stems from "the land surrounding Kyiv".

What is going on? The Russians are attacking. Simple .. if that is not the basis.

My condolences. That is very deeply affecting someone.

He seems to suggest, trying to lead, more than ask. And he seems to aim at a renewed enmeshment between Ukraine and Russia. Good fences make good neighbors.

In a way this shows that the US is not too eager to get a war. I am not surprised. In a way this contradicts those assuming that US’s geopolitical interests are driving the russian’s war against Ukraine.

Between normal people, compromize is a good skill. Also it can be beneficial in acute situations when negotiators know what they are doing. The Budapest memorandum gave us hope. In a true compromize, both parts need to be sincere. Even letting the russian navy remain on Crimea, with the understanding that it would need some time to move has proven disastrous to Mariupol.
