  1. 1:97 Passively collecting user data is much more effective at actually tracking what issues users face and what friction there is than directly getting feedback is. Users often provide bad solutions to the problems they're facing in their feedback, and then Microsoft must reverse-engineer the feedback to find out what issues the users actually face. Blindly listening to user feedback leads to bloat, feature creep, and a bad UI, which is why Office 2003 was so much worse than Office 2007.

  2. I've just remembered this scene from Rick and Morty where Jerry talks to Stupid Rick about his job (marketing), and Stupid Rick says: "So you help people decide which products they want to buy." Later on in the episode, Stupid Rick says: "You are so wise. I guess that's why you work in advertising."
