  1. I think they should have just found a way to serve ads through the API. But now, a whole lot of people are going to switch to Lemmy. Edit: Alternatively, if they make the API a more reasonable price, apps can monetise themselves using ads and use that money to pay the API fee. However, as-is, the API is way too expensive, and many people will probably switch to Lemmy.
