  1. It is mostly because of developer freedom. They should be the ones who decide if the game has one or not. People don't like it when outside forces try to change a game to cater to them.

  2. That is just petty and dickish. Why put in the easy mode if you are just going to use it to mock the people who pick that difficulty. Just don't have a easy mode then.

  3. It isn't gate-keeping it is ultimately up to the developer to decide to add an easy mode or not.

  4.  @65firered  I rather not have an easy that mocks people who pick it. What is the point of having it if you don’t want people to use it. It would be having a car where they give you a sunroof but you are told not to use it by the manufacturer.

  7.  @thegodofalldragons  No big studios do it sometimes. The Spider-Man PS1 game says kid mode, the lowest difficulty which is meant for well kids also is good magazine reviewers.

  8. Dark Souls can be summed as trial and error at times but most of the difficulty is pretty fair. The only exception that comes to mind is the Bed of Chaos which is true fake difficulty as the bottomless pit make just about every attack an instant kill.
