  2. It depends on the way it is done. Japan loved the Last Samurai because the filmmakers took care to do their research.

  7.  @zephyr8072  It actually isn't. They didn't recast characters as being different races than they historically were. And as for traditional stuff. The title character is based on Saigo Takomori who did in fact dress in full classic Samurai armor. Oh and the filmmakers weren't sued by the Japanese for this film.

  9.  @zephyr8072  More than one actual historian puts him fighting in the Boshin War as part of the Republic of Ezo. He even held a government office something at the time only Samurai were allowed to have.
