  1. Well one is good and the other isn’t. Also the changes they made to appease China didn’t really help the movie. They replaced Mushu with a Phoenix but used a Western version of the mythical bird while Mushu was a good example of how Dragons are treated in the East as benevolent beings.

  3.  @carljohan9265  You can. The Foreigner came out in 2017-2018 and it has Jackie Chan as a retired Taiwanese Special Forces operative that served in Vietnam. Though that is still a change from the book where he was a former Viet Cong Guerrilla.

  6. The difference is the United States is case of creator provincialism (meaning the US gets the most focus because the movies are made there) and we can and do make movies critical of the United States in Hollywood all the time. China is a different ball park.

  8. They have but it stopped after 2008. Some examples, The first Transformers movie had China being one of the main suspects in the attack on a military base in Qatar at the start of the film, and the United States nearly ends up on the brink of war with China before it is finally revealed to be alien robots. The Departed had a major plot point being the main villain selling microchips to the Chinese Government for their ICBM program. The Dark Knight had a Chinese banker flee to Hong Kong to avoid being prosecuted for laundering the money of the Gotham Mob Families in the US because of the lack of extradition treaties and the entire police force is depicted as corrupt. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor released the same year as the Dark Knight has a fictional version of the founder of the Qing Dynasty (read: Modern China) as the villain wanting to take over the world and Chinese human antagonist. The script actually appeared to be changed to be more critical of China as the Chinese human antagonists were originally Japanese Soldiers when the movie was set during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the final battle would have had Chinese POWs helping the heroes (this was changed to zombies from the laborers who built the original Great Wall)

  10. When Mulan thanks a province for allowing to film near their death camps and a trailer has to be pulled for using footage of a real-life atrocity not for the children (this is an M-rated game after all) but to appease the nation that committed the atrocity you should be alarmed.

  14. Russia is not bad guy in every modern Call of Duty. Outside of the first Black Ops, the Russian antagonists (when they have them and not have them be other nationalities) are non-state-sponsored independent actors. Also China was one of the antagonist in Black Ops II.

  15. And most of them do. Age of Extinction and Iron Man 3 had scenes that could easily be removed for domestic release. Also, the Mission Impossible 3 thing is something that tends to happen with any film doing location shoots. Some other examples include Scream where Wes Craven had to film the high school scenes in a different area from the rest of the film as the town he filmed most of the film in, was in the middle of a trial over a school murder that occurred a few years earlier and Spectre had EON having to remove an entire subplot in the Mexico City cold open to remove a corrupt government official character to appease the Mexican Government.

  21.  @craigb47  What about them? Iran was subject to a coup and the got into a long and bloody conflict with Iraq so it was destabilized: Rhodesia we weren’t even involved in even indirectly. The Latin American nations they were destabilized pretty well on their own and we only directly got involved with the two biggest offenders.

We also didn't train Saddam as he was already in power at the time and we didn't train or back Bin Laden but the Mujahideen a coalition of anti-Soviet Afghans who remained our allies when the War in Afghanistan began in 2001.

The issue isn't Chinese People enjoying movies but the CCCP having a disproportionate influence in the making of movies like how Doctor Strange didn't cast a Tibetan actor to play The Ancient One who was Tibetan in the comics to avoid getting banned in China or removing the Tiamen Square footage in The Cold War Trailer covering up a real world atrocity committed against Chinese citizens.
