I honestly can buy it. There was a near miss incident of a runaway train with a toxic chemical load in May 2001. Thankfully it didn’t crash and nobody died but it was in the same state as this one.

OSHA doesn’t cover railroads as there were already existing regulatory agencies that handled it when OSHA was founded.

@SvendleBerries This isn’t the government. This is a private company.

Because it was based on a book from the 80s
2
Pretty high actually. The movie was adapted from a book made in 1985 and we a near miss with a runaway train with a similarly dangerous load in 2001.

@miamijefe7793 That is not what I said.

That last part sounds wrong. If that was the case, we would all be dead.

North Korea: Hold our beer and watch this.

I was actually thinking of the Crazy Eights Incident in 2001 a near miss of this same type of issue.

We have a Moscow Idaho and Paris Texas.

It means to spreads less compared to if it blows up. This is no Chernobyl.

You really are exaggerating the severity of the event.

Railway cabs are pretty well designed for safety. Also there are no conductors the term is engineer conductors refers to the people directing foot traffic onto passenger trains.
1
There isn’t. It would have no value to ship that stuff in bulk unlike say ingredients for polymer.
1
It is illegal here too.

You forgot this is the administration that doesn’t like pipelines. Not to mention these are very specialized chemicals.

@miamijefe7793 I am pretty sure Europe doesn’t ban glue as that is what was on the train. Someone toxic by itself but can be used for important applications after it has been properly processed. The same goes for what was on this train which was a ingredient in making polymer and plastics.

That is a load of crap coming from someone who lives in the states
1
Yes but it would be diluted by the atmosphere.

I think people were aware of the possibility for decades as the book the movie is based off came out on 1985.
