Nah not even in Medieval times. If I said back then I wanted to bring world peace that wiping out every group that disagreed with me would say I am justified?

@zillatorian1180 That is actually a quote from Patton.
9
Well going by the quote they use I say hell no. If the ends justified the means than I can say genocide can bring world peace.

@atpyro7920 No Guilty Man free is worse. An Innocent man every once in a while is better than having the guilty getting away with their crimes.
8
@spyrelle3970 Not really he is tried no differently from anyone else who was accused. A guilty man going free is more costly because they are free to do crimes.
7
I can't think of the phrase for the greater good now without thinking of the movie Hot Fuzz, and frankly that movie is the perfect answer to the question in the title.
6
@DonnyCarrington The system does work when majority of the time the guilty are behind bars.
6
@michaelknox3715 But when you ask that question, the answer is no. If things get to that point, the means have gone too far.
5
@Konsaki I am sorry but there is no way things like genocide or rape can be justified.
3
I love to point this out too. When you are really doing something for the greater good you don't have actually say it because everyone with a working brain will know it is for the greater good automatically.
2
jocaguz18 Genocide is still wrong.
2
@AAhmou No we don't need to bring satellites for that.
2
No not at all.
1
@minnion2871 Except you know letting a rapist off the hook is going to get more people to suffer.
1
@minnion2871 My priority is about getting the right person behind bars. That is why letting a guilty person go free is worse in my book.
1
@yokai1235 But there is still the risk to collateral damage. Also the sentence isn't going to get bigger because of the concept of Double Jeopardy.
1
@yokai1235 In my book, the important thing is catching the criminal the first time. No risking anyone else just to pad out the sentence.
1
@theuncalledfor You heard of plea deals? People confess to the crime but they get off the hook.
1
@theuncalledfor That is a very hypothetical situation.
1
@enjamessimpson They kinda the reason people are in prison for drug possession is more often than not, they confessed to a worse crime and got a sentence for the lesser crime.
1
Nah the deaths are on par with a bad flu season.
1
@demiurge9212 Only because of the stupid lockdown.
1
@OnyxRider However the thing is in those examples you don't have claim the ends justify the means. It is only when you start claiming that the answer is no.
1
@Konsaki Except you don't have to claim the ends justify the means in that case. When you do, the answer is always no because the times the answer is yes, there is no need to ask the question.
1
Answer Hell NO. The claim the ends justify the means have been the rationale behind the most horrific actions performed by the human race.
