@d.i.l.l.i.g.a.f.594 Military History Visualized his other channel did a video tackling this subject, but if you don't have the time to watch it, the short version is they weren't shot on the spot.

@d.i.l.l.i.g.a.f.594 I never said either of those things. All I said is that unlike what people think thanks to Hollywood (coming from a movie that was so inaccurate that the actual living veterans of the battle tried to get it banned in Russia) World War II never had Soviets executed on the spot for retreating. The other channel this guy runs has a video debunking those claims with primary sources showing this style of execution was not official policy and grounds for executing the person who tried to do it.

@d.i.l.l.i.g.a.f.594 They didn’t even do that during World War II.
3
@FieryCheeze It is mostly because Russia is holding back. If they really wanted to. The tanks they are using aren’t even the latest generation.
3
@williamzk9083 It was solved by not overloading the Sherman with ammunition.
2
@nvelsen1975 They have modern optics on their tanks visibility isn’t an issue.
2
@Noooo23523 Not modern tanks are hard to kill without the right right hardware. The M1 Abrams is almost indestructible.
2
That is why blowout panels exist.
2
@keithplymale2374 You can’t do wet storage with a carousel auto loader and more than you can with blow out panels.
2
T-15 says hello.
2
Tell me what can replace the tank’s role in combat but another tank?
2
Too complex with so many ways to go wrong.
2
@fabik805 They do. Russia just doesn’t send their best stuff to fight in wars that are WWIII to keep them out of enemy hands. It is the same reason they kept the T-72 out of Afghanistan. We know they had the thing in operation at the time.
2
@d4ntheman Depends on the generation of tank and ATGM. I am pretty sure something like Type 10 would survive a Sagger.
1
So long as they don’t permanently keep it open the crew is safe. The Abrams is a tough tank.
1
@captainfactoid3867 There is a still a need the Peace Dividend was a fallacy.
1
@captainfactoid3867 Resources in America are not that limited and China was a near-peer enemy at the time.
1
@captainfactoid3867 We only have 21 B-2 and 3 Zummwalts because Congress and Robert Gates are boneheaded nimrods. The reason we have no Star Wars project was that the technology for space lasers isn't feasible even today.
1
@captainfactoid3867 I am not agreeing with you. Costs is obviously not the issue and you are shifting the argument from limited resources. They are not the same thing. And money and expense isn't the issue. The Joint Strike Fighter Program managed is still more expensive than the Zummwalts would ever be and it wasn't cancelled.
1
@captainfactoid3867 You are frankly wrong on all counts as no-one at the time knew that the Cold War would end so quickly and it was still a stealth bomber which could be useful as we didn't know how the post-Cold War world would look. China also was already modernizing their military. Their standard cartridge they used for their current weapons was developed in 1987. The year prior they had made a bullpup rifle that was the precursor to the Type-97. The Zummwalt would be needed as there was no other design capable of providing the type of naval fire support for ground troops since we retired the Iowa-class and it would be more capable than the Iowa-class. The M1TTB would also be needed as we were planning on keeping the Abrams in service until about 2050.
1
@d.i.l.l.i.g.a.f.594 Military History Visualized already talked about the idea of Russians shooting retreating troops during World War II was a myth.
1
@DogefromBroa No they are a economically a third world nation by now so they are stuck with older stuff generally.
1
@Noooo23523 No the Abrams has a three layer armor composite. You don’t need it to be thick anymore. The armor on the Abrams was designed with stopping sabots in mind.
1
@elliotyourarobot I say third world mostly because militarily they are stuck with old equipment from the Cold War-era and aren't exactly known for their domestic industries.
1
@elliotyourarobot I said Cold War-era as in early stuff like the T-62 Ukraine uses. The stuff America still uses was more recent designs and you ignore domestic arms industries part which means the United State doesn't apply as we have modern equipment built after the Cold War. I was also referring to Ukraine when I said they were third world nation.
1
@davidty2006 Mostly because the Soviets don’t want to risk it.
1
The T-14 hasn’t shown up as Russians never use their latest stuff in case it gets captured by the enemy and thus NATO
1
@jacknemo8021 And you are f-ed if you go up against other tanks.
1
@anthonyramirez9925 Hardly the same thing.
1
@fabik805 So the T-15 isn’t better than the T-90M why?
1
@paulredinger5830 They are using last generation tanks that is why they keep blowing up.
