  2. They did and the Palestinians caused a coup in one of them. Before Israel occupied what is called Palestine today, it was divided by the neighboring Muslim nations. Egypt had the Gaza Strip, Syria had the Golan Heights and Jordan had the West Bank. This lasted from the 1948 creation of Israel to the 1967 Six Days when Israel captured the territory.
