  3.  @alyssabaerne9508 Quick history lesson the Republican Party was formed with a platform of abolishing slavery. The Democrats were more split on the issue. Back then however the states that made up the Confederacy were all Democrat, but today many of these states are Republican. The Left likes to paint a myth that the parties magically flipped sides around the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s but the reality is far more complex and other factors influenced the south turning Republican such as the disastrous Carter administration.

  4. He was. The first to be President. The Republicans filled the power vacuum left when the Whig party completely collapsed over dithering on slavery. The Republicans were staunchly anti-slavery.
